  • April fools jokes dont tend to be announced a few days before hand, and it would only piss off every1 on this site. But it is a bit dodgy that it was announced April1st and that the 'proof' is the Q&A on monday (when April fools is officially over)...but either way my glass is still half-full ;)

  • Big congrats dude.

I don't need any ultimate h264 camera. I need a workflow compatible camera that I can run at a profit. I need workflow to make a profit. If we can just get a quality HD-SDI output for monitoring and recording in workflow compatible codecs, there are now plenty of compatible displays and recorders that make quality workflow seamless today. - I don't need 4k first. - I don't need 120fps first. I need to be able to shoot/edit/color/deliver/bill a project... all before lunch! And then shoot another project that afternoon. Not dick around with overnight h-264 re-compressions and conversions from consumer storage cards...

I hope they also equally recognize the trend toward compatibility with direct DNxHD recording to editing optimized disk media storage. (SSD or disk) Cameras are just one part of an infrastructure of media production. Little incompatible islands are sooooo 2009. I hope you can help them keep their eye on, and truly prioritize the real world business challenges we face everyday, i.e. keeping our clients happy and confident, both on set and after.

    Za Vas!

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev 1- that is good news, and big news 2- partnership... good and OK. I think Panasonic wants their cameras to be hacked. For many reasons they DO want to be able to sell cameras without 30min limitations or with clean hdmi output, or even raw video, but they cannot. These things are "taxed" in many ways, so they would not able to sell these features in consumer products. They could have seen, after initial upsetting, that since someone saw the inside of their box, they could turn the thing to their favour. I thinlk this can be turned to our benefit, if they want Vitaliy not to be hired from other companies AND to be able to work "for" them in the way thei are no mpre responsable for their products, they must have a good compromise deal. Easier to ride the wave than go against! 2- Maybe they will agree for a "partially user customizable" firmware tha let us do the same things CHDK does!??

Cheers, and a big hug to Vitaliy!!!

  • whats about fair traiding, hunger, capitalism, etc...?????

  • Not buying it. Not for an instant. Put me on the april 1 side. - it's too coincidental in the timing - pan would never be that smart - v. with his blunt wit and directness would never survive any corporate politics.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev One thing you should ask them is to get a batch for lets say the next gh3 or other camera you will work upon for Personal-view users. From past experience from the gh1 and gh2 launch to wait more than 9 month to get hold of one is very frustrating. I am not saying that we have a birth right in any way, but I think this community can show and promote such a camera much better than some consumer filming his cat and putting in on you-tube with the worst compression.

  • Congratulations VK I would never have bought GH2 if it was not for your work. the whole thing sounds great but smells fishy. we all wait and see. sick of monopoly and duality but love to shoot hey

  • I've checked with Panasonic HQ in Osaka. Ichiro Kitao is their janitor, Michiharu Uematsu, their delivery man and Yukio Ito sells sushi at a corner shop near Panasonic HQ.

  • VK and others have given the GH series of cameras the long tail desired by technology companies. The fact that this long tail is populated by early adapters is an exceptional achievement as they are usually the first to move onto pastures new. I can see VK EITHER prolonging the tail OR working on new things BUT NOT BOTH.

  • Are we seeing like a change of philosophy and passing of guard in those big Japanese corporation. I see this example and for another one with the Sony Fs-700 (where many on dvxuser are under nda). Which mean that a new management that is more aware about Forums, blogs, etc. type of media and the community that is around it.

This could be why the change of stance and Panasonic move towards VK and the community. What VK has done for Panasonic DSC line is big. He has put the gh1/gh2 in the limelight of the dslr revolution commanded nearly exclusively by a juggernaut Canon. I would never have got a Panasonic camera if it was not for the hack. It would have been the duopoly Canon or Nikon (Nikon for me as I shoot with it), and even today it feel strange to hold this small plastic thing after holding my Nikon camera. I think a lot of us here are in the same case, we would never have given any importance to the gh line of camera if it was not for the hack.

  • This thread is sooo funny - go on! :-)

(I think its a very well made aprils fools - congratz zu VK;-)

  • Since the notice appear on 43rumors that could be an April Fools ;-) If it is the hack continues, if not new exiting stuff will come! Instead the hack there could be an Apps system directly from Panny site, so everyone gets what it needs and could also develop for others..

  • APRIL F O O L S !

  • edit: so there's no chance we'll see 1080p60 on the gh2? or audio monitoring?

  • Congratulations Vitaliy and the crew. Just my 2 cents worth on this...As blogs are becoming more and more powerful in shaping a products development and sometimes demise, I really dont think Panasonic would want to stop the feedback, development etc...of this site, that would be foolish on their part. I am sure they realize its a changing world and they want to tap into that, not dominate it (they could not do that anyway). That said, if they can listen to Vitaliys,Nick Driftwoods, Powells views on what users want, as well as their valuable abilities, then they can only benefit, and the users will benefit too. Too many companies are out of touch, think they know best, and don't respect their user base, and it will come back to bite them (usually via disgruntled users venting on blogs) if Panasonic can tap into this and listen, then only good can come of it. Cheers

  • Congratulations!!!... It can be great or not so. Now lets see if Panasonic let you do your great job, like until now or prevent you from do it.

P.D: Cage is almost done. Do you remember?... I'm not vanished...

  • Congrats Vitaliy!

  • Well, he actually said: this is no fools joke", so it might be a genius joke ;) but that would be communal seppuku, right?

  • It makes sense. This is about the biggest year for digital cinema. C300, 5DIII, 1DX, D800, D4, Scarlet, Sony 4K, JVC 4K, and later the GH-3. And we still have what ever Canon replaces the 7D with. Lots of competition for Digital Cinema. Panasonic needs to have innovation. Now I think they will, and still 6 months or so til Photokina.

  • this is cruel joke, but good one

  • He said above its not april fools. This is no joke. Going to some things that are better and some things that are worse. In the meantime, we will find out on monday what happens to patches in the immediate future.

  • edit: i bet they built up this april fools joke for weeks
