  • Hi, which monitor or evf do you use with the BMPCC?

  • My 1st "serious" project shot on BMPCC (about 90% of footage by clip shot on Pocket) Graded with DaVinci Resolve 10 with Hook LUT, editing at Avid Media Composer. Second camera Lumix GH3 (MBL Graded) , wide shot on drum player GH2 (shaprest) All shots with shallow DOF made with Nokton lenses on Pocket.

  • Oh good god.

  • @cantsin, yes but the bmpcc sensor you count your focal length x3, so it will be 51mm

  • The 0.58x-BMPC-specific Speedbooster will turn the 30mm into a 17mm standard focal length lens on the BMPC.

  • So, i've this Sigma 30mm 1.4 for Nikon, the older version.

Wich metabones should i buy, where (how much? :D ), to have...what crop factor in total? Thanks

  • By the way, some more info on audio and filters discussed at my previous link!

  • Hi Folks, I have just uploaded my latest film "Indian Encounters", shot over two days in Jamnagar and Delhi, India. Let me know what you think! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9532/indian-encounters-bmpcc

  • hello i found the Hoodman HD350...Does work on the bmpcc?? https://hoodmanusa.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HD350

    thanks

  • I experienced the Glidecam HD1000 and the BMPCC is a good match.

  • @CFreak

Stedicam Smoothee is not best idea due to various things, one being that small and light steadicam is very ineffective due to simple physics. Otherwise use search, we have as I remember, @Rambo explaining modification and usage.

  • @MaulKentor There's are some discussion linked through this page: http://cheesycam.com/diy-baby-merlin-steadicam-smoothee-shaved-base/ of how to modify a Stedicam Smoothee for larger cams (GH2 included) and not have to spend the higher price for a Merlin and then weight it down.

  • If you have used one what is your recipe?

I think we had same talk about GH cameras. To be short, they are light, and need weights addition.

  • Anybody use a Steadicam Merlin 2 with their BMPCC? I've looked on the other topics and there is no mention of people using the BMPCC. If you have used one what is your recipe? I'm looking to use it with a switar kern paillard 10mm which weighs 170 grams or 6 oz. If not, what stabilizers are you using?

  • @matt_gh2 Thanks. That is the look I wanted (you would not think the BMPCC was capable of that given the many videos I have seen posted from it).

  • @markr041 That's a nice look for docs and sports - you really feel like you're right there when watching this video. Thanks for posting.

  • BMPCC RAW Video: Palm Beach

    Lumix 12-35mm and 35-100mm lenses.

Graded in Resolve Lite. Plenty of reds...

  • Recently bought a BMPCC. First one had lots of debris under the protective glass covering the sensor. BMD customer service was extremely piss poor (requesting proof in multiple forms and asking dumb questions)..but the supplier replaced it with a cam with no issues.

Liking the camera. Not suitable for everyday use...good for short things. I bought one of those cheap 12v batteries and has given me around 6-7 hours record time. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171217757751?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Worthy purchase if you want a BMPCC. As is neat video.

Bought a Kino loupe also...which is good. Here's how we were using it.

  • @stanlymanly2 I have 5 official batteries from blackmagic and then 6 ebay ones that dont last half as long, as well as a dual charger so I should be good.

  • @peaceonearth If I am honest I would have to agree with you that the bmpcc is not probably the best tool for weddings and I sold my GH2 (which is probably more suited to run and gun) to fund my bmpcc!

I am invested too deep into it now though, with all the extras I have bought, lenses, adapters etc so I will need to learn this new craft of grading and shooting without ois and without baked in images. This is more of a hobby for me than anything so the idea of time wasting for paid gigs is not a problem for me...I have however so far struggled to get the best out of the camera and hope soon I will be producing better results.

  • @lmackreath Hey hey! you're memory cards appear to be more than enough! if i lasted with 2 64gb cards you're way fine. the batteries are where id be worried though. I brought 3 of the cheap 12v batteries from ebay. it was cold so 1 drained really fast. then as the day went by i only used 1 for the rest of the day. the small batteries, i recommend to only bring as the backup option.

  • I don't see the BMDPCC as a good choice for events esp. for weddings. Why? You will end up in a lot of low light situations and the pocket is limited to 1600 ISO where you already will find a lot of noise. You will shoot a lot of footage and even the uncompressed ProRes will bring you tons of GB. You don't have control over audio and a very low audio quality too. If you shoot in video mode you give up flexibility of flat film mode, if you shoot in film mode you will have a lot of work in color grading...

Off course you can shoot a wedding with a pocket but as a professional for whom time means earning money (or not) it would not be the tool of my choice. A C100 will bring you nice skin tones out of camera, it has way better low light images, it has a good image quality even in 4-2-0 but small files, it has XLR audio input with auto setting and limiter, not to forget autofocus which can be very helpful too. I wood even prefer a D60 or a 5DM3 over a BMPCC. just my 2 cts.. (I own a pocket!!)

  • @mrbill Yeah I am one man team so it gives me the option of alternate angles as wells as saving precious space on my high end sd cards for the bmpcc for pick up shots and reactions. The RX100 can quite happily accept one single 64gb Class 10 Card and film for around 3 hours!

  • @lmackreath - that's a good idea. I've always stuck an HDTV camcorder on the vows and speeches and then picked up reactions with dslrs

  • @stanlymanly2 interesting stuff! I am going to use my Pocket for a wedding in April and am already worrying about the same things...how many cards I am going to need and such like.

I have the sigma 18-35 1.8 lens with the bmpcc speedbooster so as a lens choice I am pretty much sorted for wide angle, medium shots and also low light work. I will be using the kinotechnik lcd loupe to see the screen better in bright light and also a genustech nd filter. I have a manfrotto monopod for stability and will be using a rode videomic pro for sound.

As for cards..I plan to have 2 64gb 95mbs cards, 3 32gb 95mbs cards and 2 128gb 80mbs cards...which altogether should give me around 5 hours of shooting time. I have 5 official blackmagic camera batteries that should last 5 hours and another half a dozen third part batteries to give me some backup juice!

I still am not sure if the above is adequate for a days filming. I also have a sony rx100 which I may stick on a tripod for long shots like the vows and speeches, and try to integrate that footage with the bmpcc stuff in edit.
