Sales and popularity were also slightly bolstered when people found out you could use it from 14+ on a Full Frame camera with acceptable anomalies like distortion or vignetting. Nearest neighbor was Canon or Zeiss.
Additionally, that wasn't just in SLR world, but the Rehoused PL version being the cheapest, fast wide angle you could get for a cinema camera, zoom as well.. just kinda compounded it.
Nearest neighbors like a Standard Speed 14mm 2.0 (if I recall right) and that's a prime, pretty soft wide open, and sells for about 7K. So you get a rehoused 11-16/2.8 for 4000? That's pretty acceptable on larger sensor cameras... yeah, let's do that.
The 16 Rokinon is pretty solid wide open, to me... I'm not the biggest Rokinon fan, either. xD
@kholi Come on man, thought I turned you a little last week!
It had been talk about 10mm
Via: http://www.fujirumors.com/10mm-f2-8-this-is-the-next-samyang-lens-for-fuji-x-mount/
Well shoot, that would be pretty cool. Hope they can control the distortion a little bit. I know it will be there but it would be nice if it was near Tokinas 11mm. The 14mm is just too bad IMO.
Also something tells me that value of Samyangs can soon be greater :-) the only their shortcoming can be fixed by one company :-)
What's that? PL mount option or something in that area?
I think these lenses are perfect for the day.
Never thought I'd see cine lenses made for a mass market?!
Has anyone here used a cine model with a remote system like F.I.Z.? I wonder if the mechanics could handle the whacking back and forth that happens when these controllers calibrate?
I owned a few robust cine lenses, and still I would cringe when the AC would smack the focus and iris rings back and forth, or worse, when they'd be on a tyler mount with those ghastly motors.
Regardless, we're very spoiled these days, in regard to what's available for filming tools.
Thanks for posting this thread.
@vicharris , @kholi - I don't know why the Sigma 10-20 f3.5 never caught on, it barely extends, so it can be used with a MB, it's uber sharp, and barely slower than the Tokina. AND WIDER & LONGER. Count me in for the 16mm cine version... when we are out of saving mode- new house move in December!
@bheath The question about FI(Z) systems is very good indeed. I am using the 24mm and 35mm both on Steadicam with quite potent RTMotion motors. Honestly, I already had the 24mm replaced due to a loose focus ring. I am not sure if it was due to the motors, but it could definitely be the case. The 35mm is still doing fine though. So maybe it was just a bad unit.
@Tobsen 24mm cine version and 85mm classic version of Walimex are roughly at the same prices on amazon.de ; Likely a mistake (2 to 4 weeks for delivery announced) but I pulled the trigger on 24 & 85. =)
I'd stay away from the 14mm. The 16 is a, much better lens.
Just pulled the trigger on the 14mm 90 euros and seems kippon adapter to ef included.just couldnt resist
Guys think about it. Why is this lens going for so cheap. There's a reason.
Simply because... it's a good deal. Or an error. Like these two
24mm 1.5 cine version (Canon version w/ Pentax adapter) : 88, 15 EUR http://www.amazon.de/gp/offer-listing/B00CBVJPZ2/ref=sr_1_2_olp?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1381101985&sr=1-2&keywords=Walimex+Pro&condition=new
85mm 1.4 classic version (Canon Mount) : 89, 49 EUR. http://www.amazon.de/gp/offer-listing/B00BLK33Q6/ref=sr_1_3_olp?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1381101985&sr=1-3&keywords=Walimex+Pro&condition=new
@astraban Wow, that is crazy. Are these lenses for real or coffee mugs?! lol
I second that the 16mm is much better than the 14mm.
the 35mm Samyang is my mostly used lens on the FS700. I am very satisfied with it. Great sharpness at f=4 but also usable at wide aperture. Big bang for the bucks!
But 16mm is not Full frame so I can't use it with Speedbooster or our 5D. Also, 89 Euro?! that is the price of a toy lens! BTW: Deal must have been an error - they changed it.
Error, indeed. Command cancelled...
jap order cancelled.too bad thought it must be error with 99euro kippon adapter included.lol. but reallly if that lens was going for 90 euro i wouldn t give a damm if 16 mm for 400 was better or not.
