  • @sicovdplas Hmm, I'd IMAGINE they could mass produce 3-5k worth of cameras in a month when they are up to full production. So hopefully the MFT won't be delayed that long. However I have no idea what I'm talking about in regards to a realistic manufacturing number.

  • @robmneislon ALOT; nobody knows facts but i guess it's around 5k+

  • Considering there is such a delay in the MFT mount, why not make it active? Focus and aperture control would be enough at a first stage and increase lens options even further.

  • I hope you're wrong, but I can see that happening. What's the numbers on EF pre-orders?

  • Finally at least some progress...hopefully this means I get my MFT mount at some time in Feb

They said that won't make any MFT cameras before normal EF production won't run and most orders will be shipped.

Plus next update will be in January.

So, i think, more probable date in around March or April.

  • Finally at least some progress...hopefully this means I get my MFT mount at some time in Feb. It's been a long wait, but will be so worth it.

I wonder when their next firmware will come out?

  • Meh! This is NOTHING compared to the RED issues IMO. They say they got a good shipment and volume production is a go. Unless they experience unexpected issues again, which would seem a bit odd if you finally got it figured out, then it sounds like GOOD NEWS. I'm hopeful that in 2013 the camera can turn out to be a smash success. We should all want to see this camera succeed IMO.

Were mistakes made in this process? Most definitely but in the end if they say they've got it figured out now and they can build cameras that's a good thing. We'll know for sure shortly so it's really not a big conspiracy or anything. They either start shipping cameras again soon or not. We're talking about 2 to 3 months it seems for them to get both EF and MFT rolling at a considerable level.

  • Update seems not really good. And it seems like version that I wrote some time ago about issue with sensors that are not related to glass seems valid.

We'll know exactly in a month or two. Wish them luck.

  • lol, translates to: if you pre-ordered anytime May onward, wait until February for another update.

  • Hi,

Ok good news everyone as the test run of sensors have just been built into cameras and they look good. Very good. So we have just given the sensor supplier the go ahead to commence volume production of the sensors and we hope to start getting them within the next week to start building cameras. How many cameras? I am not sure, as we have all stopped production and so we all need to restart production and see how many they can produce. However we will be working hard to build as many cameras as possible over the next few weeks.

I hope people start to see more cameras shipping, but it might be a good idea if I post another update early January to update everyone on how production is progressing.

As for the micro four thirds model, it's ready to go, however the problem is I feel until we are shipping a whole bunch of EF model cameras, there is little point building any of the MFT model. So we will ship as many as we can and then perhaps see where we are mid Jan and do a few MFT models then.

It is sure a relief seeing this problem coming to a close. I cannot believe this happened and it's been an incredibly frustrating delay. However I am feeling really positive now.

    Regards,

  • Spoke too soon :-) They've put a new update about a minute ago.

  • Looks like there isn't going to be an actual update. I find their management of expectation interesting...

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev That's some appalling comment to make if you can't cite any factual source besides your "secret" source. Give it a break until they make or break the actual update.

  • @vicx

You just always understand that they were testing ND128 (hence 2.1) to show easy to spot big color cast and IR contamination. Plus now one know that HD128 "general" filter had been used.

Btw, it is not Canon stability, it is just test for strength of IR filter. And it can have consequences in the red channel.

  • Excellent video from Abelcine. I was impressed by the Canons stability.

  • ready for tomorrow news guys? :)

Do you mean new announcment where they talk that could not ship the camera because lot of cockroaches inside the cameras? They also told that all equipment are now dismanted to find and catch all of them and put them in nature (laws in AUS are very strict - 4 years of prison for every eliminated cockroach).

  • They've been promising the MFT version to ship in December. I'm guessing that date has slipped. :-( I have a short film in pre-production to shoot next month, so I guess it's back to my GH2 and D800.

  • It should be today - BMD is a Melbourne company so right now its lunch time on Friday the 14th.

  • ready for tomorrow news guys? :)

  • Something like this will do the trick, says its for CCD but I guess there is no technical reason as to why it wont work on CMOS?

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/567980-REG/Schneider_68_121044_4x4_Tru_Cut_Ultraviolet_UV.html

Is it best to chuck it in front or behind the ND's or no difference?

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev Interesting indeed. If they ever send me my camera, I'll need to invest in a hot mirror filter.

What is it about RAW video that makes it more susceptible to IR contamination?

  • Very useful information in this video (Vitaliy how do you find this stuff!?). I hope you also post it in the filter topic. Shows two things quite clearly:

    1. There is no replacement for good quality GLASS ND filtration, specifically the new generation of IR absorbing glass;
    2. Formatt HD glass filters are the all-round best choice.

(BTW, they're also less expensive than Schneider and Tiffen, at least here in Europe). I've used Formatt for years and they've always proven to be excellent value. (No, I'm not with the company, just a satisfied customer)

  • Btw interesting video

It shows that BMC requires NDs that stop IR part of the spectrum, with normal cheap NDs you'll went into issues.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev thanks, I didn't watch the making of in vimeo therefore I did not read the text. Imho nothing you couldn't have with a GH2.

  • @peaceonearth

I happened to have the early V1 Blackmagic Camera with me to shoot some behind the scenes.
