Capitalism: Apple has new plan to end third-party repairs

  • It'll die as all the previous ones across all states where hearing passed.

And nothing will change until people understand how capitalism works.

  • Apple is now offering onsite service in a handful of US cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco. As with many services like this, Apple appears to be using a contractor (Go Tech Services) and asks you to book an appointment that might include an "onsite visit fee" in addition to any costs for the repair itself.

  • Ouch, so Apple really plan to fuck third party services? Really?

Motherboard obtained a copy of the contract businesses are required to sign before being admitted to Apple’s IRP Program. The contract, which has not previously been made public, sheds new light on a program

IRPs must obtain “express written acknowledgement” from customers showing they understand they are not receiving repairs from an authorized service provider.

Businesses involved in the program are also required to stay away from so-called “prohibited products.” According to the contract, these include “counterfeit Products or service parts,” as well as “products or service parts that infringe on Apple’s intellectual property.”

“If Independent Repair Provider learns or suspects that it has prohibited products in inventory,” the contract reads, “Independent Repair Provider will... notify Apple, remove prohibited product listings, and discontinue use and sales of the prohibited products.” Businesses that discover prohibited products in their inventory will also “assist Apple’s investigation of such prohibited products,” and “send prohibited products to Apple, at Independent Repair Provider’s expense, for secure destruction and recycling.”

Apple is getting broad latitude to surveil repair businesses in order to ensure their compliance with its terms.

Participating repair shops must allow Apple to audit their facilities “at any time,” including during normal business hours. According to the contract, Apple may continue conducting audits, which can involve interviewing the repair shop’s employees, for five years following termination of the contract.

The contract requires that IRPs “maintain an electronic service database and/or written documentation” of customer information to assist Apple in its investigations. According to the contract, that database must include the names, phone numbers, email addresses and physical addresses of customers.

If Apple determines that more than 2 percent of a repair business’s transactions involved “prohibited products,” it can, per the contract, force the business to pay Apple $1,000 for every transaction that occurred during the audit period, in addition to reimbursing Apple for the cost of its investigation.

So, Louis, it is time to turn on your brain, before declaring existence of some "good managers" inside Apple.

As you, in fact, proposed lot of small shops looking at you to make harakiri.

  • What really happened with all the schematics, why all of them gone?

    Well, two things.

One - socialist countries slowly turned back to regressive capitalism, hence ruling class is not so much afraid. And ruling class on fading social system always starts to hate science and engineering, as it knows that this guys will help to bury them all.

Two - monopolies are not interested in sharing any ideas of schematics, they do not need any educated competitors. Instead they want it to look like magic, with famous "influencers" pushing overpriced cram in your hands.

  • As part of its newly announced Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Commission, the body that drafts the EU's laws, says it will introduce right to repair legislation that will push electronics manufacturers to create products that last longer, include as many recycled materials as possible and are easier to reuse, repair and recycle.

"The linear growth model of 'take, make, use discard' has reached its limits," Virginijus Sinkevičius, the commissioner for the environment, told The Guardian. "With the growth of the world population and consumption, this linear model pushes us closer and closer to a resource crisis. The only way ahead is decoupling economic growth from extraction of primary resources and their environmental impacts."

At least last part explains why of the sudden liberal and capitalist guys started to talk about right to repairs.

They just fear to be hanging on the nearest tree.

  • Back to class theory

As Louis love private property on means of production with all his heart (petty bourgeoisie always like this), he can't possibly think about proper solution for all this "right to repair" nonsense.

Hence all this "if Apple wants", "Apple choice" bullshit, search for "good managers". I literally start to cry as he care so much to not add cost to Apple business (again, because he feel little bourgeoisie goal inside himself). No Louis, forcing components and CPU manufacturers do NOT add any burden, but instead save tens and up to hundreds of millions of perfectly fine PCs and notebooks from going to wasteland. You just literally can't view this from perspective of capitalist company instead of interests of real people and society. And love for USB-C also comes from this (even if on unconscious level, as adding proper port cuts Louis income a lot).

Louis constantly wants to pet alligator (big imperialist monopolies) and befriend them. As he is scared. So he thinks that if he won't demand 10 years of parts availability (btw, quite fuzzy thing made in EU, that is easy to avoid for companies in reality) and if we won't demand connector standard - they'll at least won't target small Louis business and he'll be able to do his work. No, some loud sounding demands must be kept, but just as demands, as it is not real power behind them. Thing is that petty bourgeoisie is not very strong fighting for their goals, they are weak, busy and scared, hence almost no one comes to defend any of this bills.

Yet Louis fail to understand that only proper way is to kill alligator (in the process you will see real face of Tim Cooks of this world), even if it looks messy initially, it is only real solution for society needs.

  • So, it is just accident that Apple finished collecting all information right before the virus spread?

Of course not. You just never expected their plan to be so brutal and being part of larger plan.

  • Apple started implementing plan in August 2019, suddenly, out of nothing.

And finished collecting all their lambs info just before main huge operation.

And now lambs are going down, each day, one by one.

And after new order will be implemented, on their place you will see nice shiny Apply Authorized Service.

Almost 100% of repairs income, real dream of their owners.

  • And I just perfectly remember idea on how nice is to exclude medical equipment from this initiative because it is problematic.

It is capitalism that is problematic, and you can observe this beast eating now at full speed.

  • Louis is again surprised, whole month of surprises.

Thing is, until we'll have capitalism this guys will block schemes, service manuals and any other info. Not because they are horrible, but because service get them big chunk of money, and being medical equipment profit margins are very good.

Yes, and they do not care about people, even if thousands will die.

  • More money spent, more fails with bills

Not understanding how capitalism works and that monopolies will do to protect their profits is just staggering.

  • Good quote from old document on that Apple is now doing:

Microsoft’sresponse to the browser threat was to “embrace, extend, extinguish”; in other words, Microsoft planned to “embrace” existing Internet standards, “extend” them in incompatible ways, and thereby “extinguish” competitors.

  • Again.. bad people are responsible.

And attempt to explain why copyright had been good. No, copyright is the reflection of private property, and should be totally eliminated if we want to go any further.

In fact copyright will be among biggest crack the society will split soon, and capitalist will defent it with all the force and weapons they'll have, so trying to defend it even slightest is horrible thing to do and means that you stand on the position of ruling class.

  • Still bad Apple managers?

No, Louis, it is bad capitalism and corporations who rule during imperialism stage.

  • Apple has announced that its burgeoning independent, third-party iPhone repair program is expanding to Canada and Europe. In a statement, it said that the “industry-leading program,” which enables repair businesses to use Apple-certified parts and tools, had been a big success. Consequently, traders north of the border and across the pond can now sign up in the hope of passing Apple’s apparently stringent requirements.

    https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/07/apple-expands-iphone-repair-services-to-hundreds-of-new-locations-across-the-us/

Slow preparations for final strike, fast and deadly.

  • Finally Apple comes after Louis

Apple Inc said on Monday it had expanded a program that provides parts and training to independent repair shops to cover its Mac computers.

Apple initially launched the program last year, but it only covered iPhones, the company’s biggest-selling product.

Apple’s shift in repair practices came after years of calls from right-to-repair groups who had criticized the company for, among other things, only providing genuine parts and training manuals to firms such as Best Buy Inc.

With the independent repair program, Apple began offering to sell parts and provide free training courses to independent shops to perform out-of-warranty work.

After starting in the United States, Apple expanded the program to 32 countries in Europe as well as Canada last month, saying 140 businesses with a total of 700 locations had signed up.

Apple will soon start witch hunt, final stages of preparation coming. Right-to-repair idealists soon will feel extreme pain and suffering.

  • I am sure most of the animals in video had similar nice "logical" explanations of things that are happening

Just outcome is perfectly known and it'll be sad to see Louis tears and sadness quite soon.

  • "Every year it gets harder and harder and harder" and every year libertarian views become more and more and more contradicting with reality around and Apple actions. But fuck reality, libertarian views are more important.

Very short time ago Louis smiled and declared that he do not care and that ARM transition does not matter. It does and now Apple is winning, not because they are stronger overall but because Louis is using totally unreliable and unscientific methods to fight.

It is time for people to judge everyone looking at the results of his actions, not on the declared nice words.

  • It is unfair.... Consolidation is unfair... Strange things happens to out business...

Yes, Louis, big bloody end will happen to small independent places.

  • Again bad guys who not watched Louis videos made all this?

  • In the second beta of iOS 14.4 seeded to developers and public testers this week, MacRumors contributor Steve Moser has discovered code indicating that Apple will be introducing a new warning on iPhones that have had their camera repaired or replaced with aftermarket components rather than genuine Apple components.

The non-genuine camera message will likely direct users towards a future Apple support document emphasizing the importance of iPhone repairs being completed by authorized, trained technicians using genuine Apple parts, including Apple, Apple Authorized Service Providers, and those part of Apple's Independent Repair Provider Program.

Ouch, again bad people Louis? Or this is original plan?
