D4S is a multimedia powerhouse, allowing you to capture stunning and smooth 1080/60p video. Shoot scenes with tremendous depth and sharpness as well as with shallow depth of field or bokeh—and even capture 2MP stills simultaneously while recording video. For video, 2.7x Crop Mode extends the reach of lenses and produces outstanding video quality and detail. D4S adds real-time audio adjustments during recording, selectable sound ranges like Wide Range and Voice Range and improved wind noise reduction on the internal mic. Adjust color settings on the camera's LCD to better match an external monitor. Capture smoother Time Lapse sequences with reduced flicker and improved interval control (up to 9,999 shots), and even simultaneously record to internal CF or the latest high speed XQD cards and an external recording device. Changes from Nikon D4s “C” firmware version 1.31 to 1.32
Fixed the following issues, which would in rare cases occur when RAW+JPEG photographs were taken with write-enabled cards inserted in both the XQD and CompactFlash card slots, RAW primary - JPEG secondary selected for Secondary slot function in the SHOOTING MENU, and On selected for Network > Options > Auto send in the SETUP MENU.
- The camera would sometimes freeze on restart after users had (1) pressed the shutter-release button all the way down without first activating the standby timer and then (2) allowed the timer to expire or turned the camera off without first reactivating the timer.
- If the shutter-release button was pressed all the way down to begin shooting with the standby timer off, the first shot would sometimes neither be marked for transfer nor uploaded.

If you're coming from an enthusiast-grade camera, and you're prepared to accept the added heft of a pro shooter with a body that could hammer in tent pegs, you'll doubtless find it to be a spectacular upgrade. The D4S pairs truly great image quality with superb performance.

Image quality from the Nikon D4S is among the very best in all areas. Image noise is extremely low and dynamic-range is exceptionally high.
The Nikon D4S' default tone curve is remarkably similar to that of the Canon 5D Mark III.
Compared to the Nikon D4, the D4S offers a whole stop more shadow detail, while not sacrificing any highlight detail. The D4S' tone curve offers higher contrast in the brighter midtones than its predecessor, along with a more subtle roll-off from near-white to completely 'clipped' regions. Compared to the Sony A7, the D4S also offers a whole stop more shadow detail, but clips to white 2/3 EV earlier.

Nikon D4 adds a number of enhanced features, including quicker continuous shooting with AF/AE, increased speed ethernet, as well as improved video recording. Where there is the most noticeable improvement is in the increase in image quality and specifically noise performance, which gives excellent results right up to ISO25600 and even ISO51200. The improvements have meant the camera's video mode will also shoot at ISO25600, and stills photos can be taken at a whopping ISO setting of ISO406900, giving the camera the highest ISO setting of any Digital SLR available.

The Nikon D4s is an extremely well built and very responsive camera that seems to react instantly to anything you throw at it. Start-up feels instantaneous, there is no shutter lag to speak of and with the right lens mounted, focusing is also very fast. The D4s is about as rugged as it gets, and the ergonomics are first class. There are a multitude of ways to check and modify settings, and you can set up the camera to work just about any way you like.
