X100S' dev team's lead said the 'S' stands for second/special/super. "X100" term is iconic to Fuji's X lineups. The next version would be called X100T.
List of improvements over X100
X100s has no image stabilization. It is the first Fuji X model that takes 14-bit RAW images.
At first I thought X100S is a minor update. But it seems a major update. Not just body performance. Lens has been updated so that f/2.8~f/11 performance seems stellar. I've seen some really nice macro shots. But why the naming instead of X200?
Sigma DP lineup is complete with DP1, DP2, and DP3 series. DP1, DP1s, DP1x, and DP1 merrill have 28mm equivalent FOV. All DP2 models have 45mm FOV, and the newly released DP3 merrill has 75mm FOV.
My gut feeling is that Fuji is mimicking the naming. So X200 series might be 50mm FOV and X300 series 85mm FOV. Go Fuji!!!!
In Asia the price has already fallen below $1100. There are already some cases about defective bodies as usual.
Unboxing & operation walkthrough
Cool cam. Really looking forward to the next generation of x-pro and x-e... Keeping my fingers crossed they will deliver OK video.
Very good ISO performance from a relatively small body.

X100 has become one of the most popular street photography cameras.

X100S has improved many shortcomings of X100. The removal of AA filter sounds great. Less digital sharpening would be more pleasing to eyes. Finally fast AF to capture the decisive moment. But its max shutter speed is still funky.
"1/4000sec at F/8 or smaller aperture"
I heard enabling ND filter or max aperture slows down the shutter speed a lot. I like Fuji color, but Fuji gears seem always funky. Then again why search for perfect gear where we are far from being perfect. Wabi-sabi. Deep DOF seems better for street photography, and X100S is expected to have insane high ISO performance better than X-Pro1's.
Another interesting feature is leaf shutter. There's nothing special about itself, but some people figured out how to overcome the slow sync speed. http://strobist.blogspot.com/2012/09/should-you-consider-ir-remote.html
