Looking at doing Riker's solution. No issues from anyone about variance on the voltage or anything like that? Also, anyone here had issues with getting their audio recorder running off the same battery to work properly while sending phantom to a mic? (Looking at getting Tascam DR60-D which would be run off 5v from the usb on same battery.) Tascam's manual says there might be an issue depending on which computer is sending the voltage via usb... but they don't elaborate.
If that's all good, just need to figure how to attach to rig!!!
I would just like to add that I have been experimenting with the power supply posted by Riker. It works but sometimes I notice that the voltage on the battery once in a while drops below the required GH2 minimum leading to "This battery cannot be used...". It might drop voltage if I accidentally jostle the battery too much, or just out of the blue. A power-off and power-on will reset it back to normal in most cases (however there was one time I had to reset it 3 times before it stabilized)
Hi everybody. I want to build the DC coupler for my GH2 using a non original battery - wich doesn't work so well. The question is: is it enough to connect power directly to positive and negative pins of the battery, or does the original coupler have any chip or sort of circuit to regulate voltage or current, perhaps attached to the remaining pins? For the AC power I got the original AC8 supply, for extra portable power I wish to buy one of those 3 output batteries (5 + 9 + 12)...
@MbhuyKo : In the video review posted by Riker ....
@gabilourson which one??
By reading everything in this thread, you should be able to figure that out yourself. Right?
I bought same battery that in this review, and everything he said is true, very good product...
I saw these V lock Batteries on Calumet's website (USA chain photo store). They are currently on sale and seem too good to be true. Does anyone have experience with them? Batteries: http://www.calumetphoto.com/eng/product/calumet_bp_65h_lithium_ion_replacement_battery_with_lcd_display_for_sony_video_cameras/cj0881 and http://www.calumetphoto.com/eng/product/calumet_bp_65h_lithium_ion_replacement_battery_for_sony_video_cameras/cj0880 Charger: http://www.calumetphoto.com/eng/product/calumet_dual_port_v_mount_li_ion_battery_charger_with_built_in_12v_dc_power_accessory_socket/cj0890
They have a 14 day return policy and if you buy it online you can even return it to a retail store (and save the shipping).
They look like cheap batteries rebranded, except for the one with the LCD display. That charger looks pretty good though. Does anyone have experience with this brand or similar looking model of V lock batteries? TIA.
@hempo22 maybe these batts above are a cheaper alternative for you?
I was able to get the Anker Astro 3 working with the DC coupler. I'll keep you guys posted on the continuous battery life.
@hempo22 , i think you need just this cable: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/170931591123 and FLEXIOM box as VK mentioned above :-)
Check
May be @feha will make you custom one with V mount if you like. His converters seems to be top notch.
Hey guys, need some help here to make sure I'm sane. Yes, I've read all topics and all pages I could find about this and it's so much confusing info out there on what actually works as an external battery solution to the GH2.
I'm looking into buying Globalmediapro batteries (AB-mount, heard very good stuff about them) but I'm not sure which plate or pinch or whatever you call it to use with the batteries. The Dynacore looks good, otherwise I just know about the Lanparte one.
Batteries: http://www.globalmediapro.com/dp/A00TU1/Globalmediapro-Li160A-Lithium-ion-Battery-160WH/
Dynacore plate: http://www.globalmediapro.com/dp/A2HME5/Dynacore-D-CA-Gold-Mount-Power-Adaptor-for-DSLR-HD-Cameras/
I've ordered the BM PocketCam which is 12v in, most plates have a 12v out. I also got a Zacuto EVF that runs on Canon LP-E6 (a dummy for that comes with the dynacore plate) and a Neway 7" which I got here. Canon on that one as well, but there is a 7-24v input behind the plate and I've tested with a 15v plugged in from the wall (EU) and it worked good. Most plates have 15v out as well as 12v.
But until I get my BM cam, is this what I need with the OEM coupler? http://www.switronix.com/products?page=shop.product_details&category_id=41&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=152
If so, then I need to know what the D-tap outputs on the battery plate. And then want to add a converter for HD-SDI to HDMI, which usually is 5v. BM Hyperdeck is 12v+.
So... Which plate to run AB-mount batteries, and is my theory correct about what I need to power the GH2?
@tinyrobot thanks a lot!
@kevin_kirchman look for the video with the racing car batteries. I think there is a link. It's on one of these early pages and also it's on vimeo.
Does anyone have a link to the adapter needed to connect the standard cable to the jack at the end Panasonic DC Coupler?
@brandonmrsh I'm not sure it will work, as the 9V is stated 2A there might not be any drop voltage to below 9v. I never tested to connect anything to GH2/GH3 above 8.5v so it might work but test it at your own risk. Some people reported using 9v, but there might be a voltage drop when they connect GH2. Also some newly charged batteries may have higher voltage than it is stated. Example Sony NP-F batteries have 8.4V newly charged than they drop to 7.2V (as a declared voltage). But I'm not sure about Anker Astro3 does it have internal voltage stabilizer or not ?!
There might be a risk with cheap batteries if declared 9V and newly charged might give over 10V, than this will fry your camera.
@brandonmrsh , will check for you ...
@feha I don't want to post the exact same thing in your thread, so I figured I would ask here. Do you know if this will hurt my camera at all, plugging the Anker Astro3 directly into the camera @ 9v setting? From previous posts here it appears that it won't hurt it, but the last thing I can afford to do is have my camera break.
@brandonmrsh follow this thread if you wand safely use of your GH2/GH3 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6986/
@brandonmrsh Some people don't like to do it and I can see why. An extra half volt is alot when you're only dealing with 8.5 but I've been running two cameras with an ATC 15000 at 9v for a long time now with no worries.
Hello? anybody?
I just purchased the DMW-DCC8, along with the Anker Astro3. Just wanted to make sure before I connect anything.. It should be okay as is, right? Just connect to Coupler @ 9v, and be fine? Just a little worried, and want to make sure i'll be fine before I connect anything.
Thanks!
