The camera will be in Stock again in more than two months from now at B&H.
That makes sense. The noise does not behave like large pixel does.
On camera sensor
The CIS part number is IMX510AQL in a 294-pin LGA ceramic package.
It turns out this sensor was a 2×2 binning design. This means IMX510 actually has a 48MP native resolution. The RGGB Bayer pattern is spread across a 4×4 grid. After sensor readout, the four pixels in each pf the same color are then combined digitally to give one pixel before sending out on the SLVS-EC interface.
Due to production reasons, it may take some time before the product is delivered for the digital single-lens camera “α7S III”.

For me, the major advantage of the a7siii is 4K 120p. A relaxing snowstorm:
I also have this lens and I have been using it far more than I thought I would. It makes up part of my kit.
The a7s iii paired with Sony's worst full-frame zoom - excellent! The 24-240mm garnered reviews that indicated the lens had many optical shortcomings - shooting high megapixel stills! But for video: it is silent, fast AF, parfocal, and its OIS pairs well with IBIS, especially in active mode, so one can hand hold at 240mm.
@theusualeditor Yes, there are complaints about the Sony a7s iii noise reduction at high ISO's that cannot be turned down. These naysayers claim that they can do noise reduction better in post, but they forget that the noise reduction in camera takes place in 16bit and is pre-compression, so that is not obvious.
That is surprising, but makes absolute sense. Thanks for the feedback. Always thought the A7 lineup must be applying some hardware-based noise removal. At least that's my experience with the iii
@theusualeditor No APS-C crop mode at all in 4K - there are not enough pixels. That is one of the shortcomings of having a low-resolution sensor, the benefit being big pixels for low light. I have not looked at lower resolutions.
@markr041 Thanks for the variety of samples you have been posting. Out of curiosity, does Sony allow for APS-C crop on the fly while recording on the a7siii? I know this has been possible in previous models only while on standby.
