  • On order sadly - methinks Mr SLR Magic didn't foresee that all we wanted for ages was a funky wide!

  • Well, it's still on Konijnenberg.

  • Anyone knows where to order this lense? It seem to be sold out completely?!

  • Just got a reply; "Yes, we can confirm that this version also has interchangeable drive gear sides. Let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with. Regards, Derek Abel Equipment specialist" GREAT! Now to get the lens!

  • On the old RJ you can, it is in the video. I have sent a message to the seller to check whether it can be done on the new one (want the hard stops). Thanks for the info, hope to get this lens as well.

  • Looks like these are the Lanparte gears, yes - at least as far as I can tell. The FF I'm using is an indian one but has virtually no play at all. It's quite good but I bet nowadays you can find better FF (meaning more versatile, hard stops etc.) for lower prices. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.thecinecity.com/eshop/product.php?productid=154&cat=275&page=1

Can you change the gear on the RJ FF to the other side? From the pictures it looks like it! If you can, it'll probably work.

  • @pechente Are these the lanparte gears in the link below? Most of the other stuff they sell is lanparte. Also, what is this followfocus you are using? It has two gear rings, and it seems otherwise it would not work with this lens. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-Pro-0-8-Module-Flexible-Follow-Focus-Gear-Ring-Belt-SALE-/180757127436?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a15f6e10c I was going to get the RJ follow focus as I´d like to have the hard stops but it seems it could never work with this lens; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170735422229

  • Could anyone comment on how this combines with Canon FD lenses. I have a 24, 28(thanks @mimirsan) 35, and a 50mm FDs in "new FD" mount and really like the look a lot more than my Panny 20 and 14-42. This would be a great addition for my FD set if the look is not radically different. Also, exactely how difficult is to use this with a follow focus. Thanks in advance!

  • I have to correct my opinion about the Lanparte Lens Gear. It works great as long as you don't tighten it down too well. First I thought it has too much play when you keep it a little loose, but it works surprisingly well. You can see an example here:

Also it's a third of the price of the Cinevate gear, so I can absolutely recommend it :)

  • Hey guys, here is a short report done with the SLRMagic hyperprime & also some shoots with the 5dmk2 - i ordered mine in december and have been lucky enough to abtain it..

We needed to be quite invisible, though the club was really dark and finally had to turn on the led's ( litepanels mini ).

I really like this lens and for this kind of things I would not take it off the whole night. Haven't used my 14mm panasonic since I got this - actually haven't used any other lens .. haha :)))

I guess that's called WIDE DEPRIVATION SYNDROME. This one cures it, although it's not perfect ( edge distortion, flare, minor glitches - at the end of the focus barrel it can get harder to turn ), but it is definitely a cure - offers great colors too - I can see it a perfect combination for my 20mm panny !

  • Just received this email from noktor customer service

"due to postphone delivery of some components from the material supplier, we have a slight production delay, and your lens will only be ready around 15-25th March."

  • @soundgh2 Sounds good! I have to wait a bit until ordering though, my car started to leak oil like crazy so I'm fearing a hefty invoice soon.. Meanwhile, I'm getting a bit pissed off having to wait so long for the lens! I asked fotokonijnenberg to return my money until they have it in stock, but I didn't get a reply. What the heck.. Not a big deal but it gets annoying when strapped for cash!

  • @RRRR and the guy who sells the Cinevate gears on EBay is v fast and good service

  • Well, read my previous post.

  • k thanks for the Info.

  • Why would you want the yellow version? It's easier to spot in reflections.

From what I know the yellow/green versions are the prototypes and have only been shipped to select testers / reviewer. They are worse than the one with the black ring since they produce flares much more easily.

  • Is there a difference between this lense with the yellow ring or the black ring on top (black or yellow version)?

Where can I get the yellow version in Germany. http://www.fotokonijnenberg.de/product/1602931/slr-magic-hyperprime-12mm-f16-mft.html

was a great tip, but it is the black version.

    Thanks, Alex

  • @Pechente no problem using on my Tilta 4 x 4 matte box. Don't know about trust M tho.

@jimtreats, any 58mm filter will cause vignetting, but a step up ring to 67mm or larger will be fine so long as you are not stacking (then you'll need to go beyond 67mm

  • Has anyone put a filter on it without causing any vignetting?

  • @Pechente

    Not in my case

  • @No_SuRReNDer

I find lens flare on the kit zoom is pretty ugly, in part due to the oddly shaped aperture (when stepped down).. Bokeh is also not very nice on the kit-zoom.

If you want the relationship between very close and distance (and play in-between) then there is no match, really.

But like you say, for establishing scenes then the 14mm kit zoom will suffice, no sweat.

  • @No_SuRReNDeR

Biggest advantage of 14mm is AF, size and weight and also software compensation of distortions. Plus with discounted GF2 kit it can be purchased for almost 0.

  • I'd certainly like to see more from this lens that actually shows what it's REALLY capable of producing. If someone who actually owns this lens, please throw up a rez chart (or frame a dense graph chart), and starting at f/1.6 start closing the lens down a stop at a time. Use controlled lighting and compensate for exposure via ND.

  • Is the 2mm difference between this and the 14mm kit lens enough to justify this? I find I need a wider lens for my establishing shots and to me the speed isnt an issue since most wide shots I dont need shallow depth and they are usually exteriors.
