New Panasonic Pro cameras and AF100 50p/60p software upgrade

  • ...sounds like something that can (easily?) be "hacked" (like key-generators for normal software serial numbers;-)

  • Unbelievable.. just updated to 1.23 but I cant buy a key code anywhere. I'd have expected the moneygrabbers at panasonic to have it the other way round! - but equally annoying.

I shouldnt think the user base is big enough for someone to make a activation keygen - but you never know

  • You can pre-order a keycode from Adorama. They are quoting a June 30 delivery. I heard from Panasonic that the factory jumped the gun on announcing the firmware upgrade (likely because they had previously promised it for end of May) but the sales channel was simply not ready with the code manufacturing. And yes, this is annoying.

  • the sales channel was simply not ready with the code manufacturing

    This is just amazing :-)

  • What is really sad is that they could do this with the GH2. Sure I probably wouldn't even consider buying a GH3 then. However, I probably won't shell out another $1000 for the GH3 no matter what they put in it. If they allowed the GH2 to be upgraded I guarantee that they would get my $250.

I simply will never understand a company that has customers ready to hand them money and they will not accept it.

  • B&H just shipped the software upgrade package for 1080p60 on the AF100. I expect to receive it tomorrow, and will upgrade tomorrow evening, then shoot some test footage and report back if anyone is interested.

  • Today I received my upgrade from Panasonic to enable 1080p60 in my AF100. This is the first sample from it, handheld.

Media Inspector shows 1888x1062 pixels, with progressive scan at 59.940 fps, and a bit rate of 30.1 Mbps. The MOV file (converted from .MTS with Clipwrap) shows 1920x1080; I'm not sure why Media Inspector shows a difference.

Here's the video (or soon will be once Vimeo has converted it.) It's nothing fancy, just a view from my apartment window.

  • I got it too, installed, so fat have not shot with the new upgrade!

Has anyone gotten any word whether or not these will work in the GH line of cameras? Cuz there's a petition to Panasonic to do allow RAW recording on their cameras the way ML has allowed it on Canon cams.

I'm probably barking up the wrong tree, but it would be very cool to see the GH2 shooting RAW to these cards...

  • Micro P2 cards are UHS-II, they share same size but have more electronics contacts. Will they work at full speed on a normal SDHC/SDXC reader/slot?

  • @Ze_Cahue

I think that they are for Panasonic cameras only .

    "UHS-II Pin Layout

A new pin layout was introduced to support the UHS-II bus interface. The new second-row pins on the full-size SD memory card and microSD memory card are used for the UHS-II signals. The first-row pins are used for the normal speed, high speed and UHS-I bus interface signals to provide interoperability with existing non-UHS-II host devices."

They will work at UHS-I speed only. Unless Panasonic hide the UHS-II compatibility with GH3. GH2 only has 1 row of pin contacts, I dont have a GH3 to check it out, maybe some of you guys can have a look inside the SD compartment.

  • I could only detect 1 row with my iPhone olloclip macro lens.

  • F****K! Today i hang Hours and Hours on different Panasonic Support Lines i want buy the Upgrade Code but it's discontinued and no chance to get it from Panasonic they cancel the upgrade too but they tell me that the Codes are the same and it's possible to activate it with more Cam's can anybody send me this Code i'm willing to pay 150 when it works!!! Thanks!

  • Sad, wish they'd just put it up to download for free rather than completely discontinuing it

  • What you said @IronFilm, what do Panasonic lose by releasing the upgrade for free now that the AF100 reaches the end of its life? I don't understand this decision - why not extend the usability for those of us still shooting with the AF's

  • It's a big corpo, they don't understand such obvious ideas...

  • Does anyone have access to the 25-digit key code?

  • So it has been around 7 years since the release of the original AG-AF100 and you can now buy second hand units really cheap on eBay, I bought a second one just recently for $800. So now I have two AF100 and neither can shoot at 1080 50/60P because of Panasonic's decision to limit the number of released upgrades (the most blatant planned obsolescence move ever). So is there any way to somehow get this 25 digit key from another source, using a keygen?

  • Hey guys,

I have an offer to buy Ag-Af100, in good condition from my friend, just for 300euros, so I'm interested in this topic...

Are there any news for hacking/buying this update code from anywhere?

P.S. it's my first post in this forum after following it for years. Best wishes to all of You from Lithuania :)

  • There is no hack. You get what you get with it when you buy the camera.

I'd normal recommend NOT getting the AF100 (it pretty much is on the inside a camera between perhaps a GH1 and GH2 hacked).

But at only 300 euros? GO FOR IT! :-D

  • I wouldn't take it as a gift. 300€ wasted. If you need a cheap m43 camera a GH2 has way more value.

  • Wasted? You have built in ND filters. Full size HDMI and SDI outputs. Dual memory card slots. Waveforms and vectorscopes. Tonnes of buttons on the body for quick access. XLR inputs. Timecode in/out. Plus the "big camera presence" (handy sometimes for people to take everything a little more seriously when doing otherwise no budget shortfilms.... which is probably a typical usage for a 300 euro camera).

If (I'm not, I own an F3 & BMPCC) I was in the market for this kind of thing and saw one for 300 euros (which is similar ish price to a GH2) then I'd be all over it, I'd pounce on this immediately before it got sold to someone else!
