These are both heavily saturated markets. Numbers of units sold can't keep increasing forever. Market share would be the more telling statistic.
Nikon acquires Samsung NX tech!
The past weeks we had long chats with our Samsung sources about the recent shut down rumors. And they told us the reason why Samsung is stopping the camera sales: Nikon acquired all the Samsung NX tech! That acquisition could (I said could!) be made public in January at the CES. As we have been told Samsung will have a major press announcement there.
What Nikon plans to do:
Nikon will use Samsung NX resources to launch their professional mirrorless system. It is yet unclear if Nikon will keep the NX mount or use an own new mount. That info is not accessible to our Samsung sources (it’s a decision that will be taken by Nikon). The “resources” we are talking about also include Samsung sensor tech, video tech and processor engine.

Source?
Saw there now. :)
If true, could be a stroke of genius from Nikon.
If they keep the apsc size of sensor but they make a "speedbooster" integrated AF f-mount adaptor...that could be great.
As far as I know, the flange distance of the NX mount was the culprit of Metabones not making speedboosters for the mount. If they start with a new mount with a shorter flange distance, it could be possible.
Hello, there is very little doubt that Nikon would be foolish enough to try another lens mount other than theirs. They have a world class line of great lenses ready to go, both FF or APS.
However, in a statement sent to Amateur Photographer (AP) this morning, a Samsung spokesperson said: ‘Media reports that Nikon is allegedly buying our NX technology are not true.’
And now we have official confirmation (as if Samsung denies something it is true).
Well if it's true: at least nikon will now have their own sensor tech. Really- why didn't panasonic buy?
Whatever tech Nikon buys from Samsung for a mirrorless camera I am sure will be excellent for Nikon.
Can Nikon built s smart adapter for the NX cameras so I can get autofocus on these G lenses.
Sony FS5 vs Samsung NX1 in 4K and 1080p
Nikon confirms that the rumors are not true." Such confidence is the answer given by the European division of the company when asked their representatives Quesabesde about the veracity of the information that speak of buying the Samsung NX system. A rumor that takes days hovering over the area and it has all the ingredients to become one of the most intense soap operas remainder of 2015 and early 2016.

Still the best color and detail on the market:
1080p Field Test: Sony FS5 vs A7S vs Samsung NX1
Samsung effective management made -21% in printer sales
Good management scraps a valuable camera line to work in a idea that fails EVERY time to catch.
(my bet: that mount is the NX Mini)
Just ignore this, patents do not mean anything for such large corporation usually, they just file them in big amounts to have something for trade and protection.
Quite good part from DPReview author about NX1 - http://www.dpreview.com/articles/9773377893/gear-of-the-year-dale-s-pick-samsung-nx1
yay, H.265 support!! Samsung NX1 users will be so stoked, over the moon.
"H.265 support but it’s listed as Studio only on OS X"
Ohhh.... oh well, I guess it will eventually filter across to the free Windows version as well.
