You can restart recording with your phone, no?
Can any owners of the A7s, who have access to an external recorder, confirm whether one can bypass the 30min (29.50) recording limit using an external recorder via HDMI? I am finding it difficult find this info on the web. Thanks
easy, tetakpatak: get a proper video camera!
@hempo22 I am quite happy with my GH1s and GH2s
then what's the problem?
FF sensor would be great to have-all my great old glass finally uncropped. I was also waiting for long time and hoped somebody will finally get an idea of using only 12MP sensor with awsome low-light performace.
The problem is that I need the camera for really long shots. This baby has all I need, if just this stupid 30min recording time limit wasn't there. A7S isn't cheap, why is that limit?
I can't speak for outside of Europe, but here it's different (=higher) taxes when it's a video camera. Any camera here that can record for longer than 30 min is considered a videocamera.
And ofc the official Sony response: "To avoid overheating".
I think we had whole topic with detailed explanation, may be not one even.

A new little one. Once you have the good profile and the wb under control, this little camera is really powerfull.
@themacdeg What lens did you use? Neat video reminds me of my kids lol
@themacdeg very nice colors, thanks for your upload. it would be interesting to watch more non-slog2 footage. I like very much the profiles by Erik Naso you use in your video...http://eriknaso.com/2014/07/16/sony-alpha-a7s-hands-on-review/

NOT MY VIDEO
From Vimeo:
Our goal was to set out and shoot a short film that was lit entirely by moonlight. We waited for the moon to become full and on the night of September 8th we set out to explore the coast in California and see what we could find.
When we arrived at our location, the timing couldn't have been more perfect! It was around 12:30 AM and the moon was barely lighting the beautiful beach. The entire shoot took place between 12:30 AM- 2:00 AM.
For the first two scenes were shot at a different location a few days before the moon became full. The first scene was shot at 1/25th, f/1.4, 25,600 ISO, The second scene was shot at 1/25th, f/1.4, 32,000 ISO
Our settings for the rest of the video were around 1/30th, f/1.4, ISO 12,800. To give you a perspective of how dark it was, there are a couple photos in the behind the scenes below.
We did not add any color grading, noise reduction, or sharpness.
All of the clips are straight out of the camera shot in the PP2 setting.
You will notice some purple fringing around the left side, The Metabones adapter that we rented had a light leak issue from what it looks like.
Sony has done an amazing job in creating this camera especially after seeing the quality that has come out of this camera.
Gear used:
Sony A7s
Metabones EF to NEX Smart Adapter II
Zeiss 55mm 1.4
Otus
Zeiss 28mm 2.0
@maxr that was very cool. Good filming and acting by your friend.
A7's go bananas
