    I've been wondering if there would be a way to force the GH2's encoder to always write video at it's native 28mb/s for the 24fps 1080p mode. The footage looks great when it's all exposed for... but damn, it really likes to throw away data once it see's underexposed/dark areas.

    Of course, the 42mb/s second patch should take care of this... but the "constant 28mb/s" might be useful for people who aren't going to be doing heavy color grading, but still don't want the compressor throwing away data when it decides to drop to the 11-17mb/s range.

    @_gl - for the uk tv version of our 16mm feature shot at 24 we pitched shifted the audio and the sped the film up. it has improved so much nowdays, the lead actors didnt even notice any audio shift, and all three of them are professional singers.

    As far as I know this was done for many years also. When it came to standard definition cameras NTSC users liked using Pal cameras because of its slightly higher definition. I could always tell when it came to the resolution difference.

    @Ptchaw, it is my understanding that Frasier was shot on film, and that's usually 24fps even for TV shows (I believe eg. Star Trek Voyager was also shot on 24p film).

    Either way, pitch correcting audio (without changing length) isn't flawless.

    Donated a couple of months ago but sold my gh2 for af101. Definitly buy two gh2 and donate when hack has 1080 25p at high bitrates, 10bit and 1080p 50/60p. Or any of those : )

    @mrbill It is done with NTSC footage shown here. Even if it wasn't, so what? Who cares if no one else does it, it works, you'd never tell the difference and you end up with 25p.

    @Mimirsan I've done it on PAL cameras with no 24p. No big deal.

    @_gl You're talking 30p to 25p, which is a much bigger difference than 24p to 25p. In Premiere Pro, at least, preserving audio pitch is done by ticking a checkbox.

    One question: it's possible to fix the data rate?
    Maybe it's science fiction, but with a fixed data rate at 40 Mbps the image could be better..

    Its something Im doing at the moment (matching to GH1 25p & HX9 50p footage with GH2 24p footage) and can be a headache.
    Im pretty sure this'll all work out in the end.

    @cordvision - if you're working in PAL broadcast, then you're pretty much tied in to delivering on tape at 25fps. Which means shooting and post producing at 25fps. No one - but no one - posts at 24 then speeds up to 25fps if they can avoid it.

    @_gl Usually a slight pitch adjustment (pitch correction) of the audio is done to compensate... After doing so, there shouldn't be noticeable difference....

    @cordvision, I notice. The big problem is the audio, voices and music are pitched higher. When I first saw a US Frasier episode at the proper rate after years of watching conformed-to-PAL, I couldn't get over how deep their voices actually were, and how slow the pacing of speech was. It distorts reality in an unpleasant way.

    @Mark_the_Harp You won't notice. This is done on a daily basis. Pretty much every american film you see on pal TV is sped-up and vice versa. Did you ever notice? Probably not...
