  • I think you post comments just because you can, not because you have anything relevant to say. ;-)

Thanks for extremely valuable observation. Just use PM next time, as I can miss such gems.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev "I am talking about principle :-)"

Seems completely unrelated to the topic. Also no attribution to the quote makes it senseless. Sometimes I think you post comments just because you can, not because you have anything relevant to say. ;-)

  • Great interview - got to say that Blackmagic has a winner if they fully deliver.

  • @joethepro

I am talking about principle :-)

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev What are you talking about? Is there a hidden "10" in the camera name?

  • @Scot

Well let me ask you this- when they were making this shit up, why did they pick 10? Why not 9 or 11? I’ll tell you why- because 10 sound official. Ten sounds important! Ten is the basis for the decimal system, it’s a decade, it’s a psychologically satisfying number (the top ten, the ten most wanted, the ten best dressed). So having ten commandments was really a marketing decision!

Very short explanation of the name. It was really a marketing decision.

  • This is interesting but since it just isn't a pocket camera anymore : ) I think they should have redone The Micro Studio Camera 4K with this sensor also redesign there 4K recorder. Than design a grip to combine them so you could use the camera tethered to the recorder or mounted to the recorder with the grip. Disregarding that fantasy approach this camera if it works as specified is ok with me based on specs vs price alone.

  • BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, Our Detailed Interview

  • For me camera design is a matter of how convenient the camera is to work with. Speaking from this perspective Panasonic and Sony cameras are the worthst for me. I worked a lot with GH2 (that’s how I found this forum), GX7, GH4, GH5 and tiny LX100. The menu is not convenient at all, the only camera system which is less streamlined and confusing is Sony. I also worked with all the models by Blackmagic and I really enjoy how everything is organized there - simple and straighforward, kinda like old good Konvas 35mm film camera. The only digital camera system which is as convenient as Blackmagic is Arri Alexa, even Red is much more cumbersome, confusing (and full of bugs).

So for me this new Pocket camera is just perfect, I don’t understand what everyone is complaining about. Size is between mirrorless and dslr, so gimbals will work just fine.

  • I don't mind the design. I may even like it some, the camera looks very usable handheld with or without support, and we have to wait and see how well balanced it will be, I suppose it depends on the weight of this new material, as well as the lens used.
Knowing the IQ of the previous model, I am pretty excited about the 4k video this camera will be delivering. At this price point,,,

  • It's not a matter of taste, it is the most stupid form factor I've ever seen. Larger than a fullframe, won't fit the majority of the DSLR/mirrorless gimbals and even if it will fit it will be unbalanced, being realtively thin on the lens direction. Maybe RED and Alexa Mini and Terra chose the boxed form factor for some reason...

  • @apefos The G7 is a nice camera (I have 4, oops, sold one, 3) but the G85 is even nicer. If you see a deal on one jump on it.
As far as the BMCC 4K, wait and see some real field tests, but it is a lot of camera for that price. I agree that it would be even sweeter with a compression option....

  • It would be roughly the same resolution as a GH5S still

  • Hi, have you found any informations about the "still" option? resolution?

    Thanks

  • People are always really excited about raw and it gets a lot of the press, but I'm more excited about ProRes - especially if it turns out that ProRes can record to a standard SD card vs CFast. It's nice to have the option for raw, though, if a situation calls for it.

  • The datarates are very high, needs lots of expensive memory cards and computer disk space, the workflow can be slow due to raw conversion.

Does it worth the effort? I can get a very nice 4k image from the G7, with grading and correct denoise it looks like cinema picture, it records 110 ire so I can recover some amount of highlights in post and lift shadows a little bit, so I don't know if the benefits of BMPCC4k would worth money and effort.

  • I don't look at my camera much, but it looks like a vacuum cleaner. Anyway, I want one.

  • Yep, looks OK to me as well. Not a beauty but not much worse than, say, a GH5.

I guess people still associate with it the fake picture of the camera that showed up a day before the official announcement. It was horrible and disgusting indeed.

  • Looks good to me.

  • @IronFilm

Design has certain rules to make product look harmonic.

This one looks like monster conceived in kitchen full of blood.

  • Don't know why people think that this camera is ugly. This camera is beautiful looks like a DSLR..

Same, I don't get where the hell these avalanche of "ugly" comments come from! Looks great to me.

  • I think that the picture someone posted a page or two ago saying it looks like a V-Tech "my first camera" is pretty much right.

iPhonedo did a brief hands-on from the NAB floor -

  • I like the look, actually. To me, the only slight concern is weight distribution/balance and which gimbal with which to pair. If BM is reading these posts, I'd love to see built-in NDs incorporated before ship date! (Yeah... I know!)
