Atomos Shogun 4K recorder
  • Atomos, the creator of the award-winning Apple ProRes Ninja and Samurai camera-mounted recorders, and the pocket-sized Connect converters, will show the brand new 4K "Shogun 7” IPS monitor/recorder alongside the new Sony A7S at NAB 2014. The Shogun is currently the only 4K HDMI recording solution that can take full advantage of the new A7S’s full 35mm ultra-sensitive 12 mega pixel video sensor, clean HDMI out, 120 fps HD and custom HDMI timecode and start/stop trigger.

”Finally the camera the world has been waiting for, Sony has pulled out all the stops to deliver the world’s first Full Frame Video sensor in a camera for the masses.” said Jeromy Young, CEO and Founder of Atomos. “We are very proud to give 4K recording capability to the Sony A7S with our brand new 4K ProRes Shogun which sports a 1920×1200 7” killer monitor and unparalleled affordable 4K recording”. The Atomos Shogun is the world’s first 4K HDMI and 12G SDI monitor recorder and deck. With clean HDMI out direct to 4K ProRes onto single SSDs or RAIDed HDDs – 4K is now a mainstream reality at the equivalent of $40 per hour for storage media. With Sony’s pedigree and reliability coupled with Atomos’ revolutionary feature set and price points, this combination at under $5K is the most compelling video solution on the market today. Like the Samurai and Ninja Blade, Shogun allows the recording of pristine, 422 10-bit images straight from thecamera sensor captured using 4K/HD ProRes, Uncompressed RAW Cinema DNG or Avid DNxHD codecs.Waveform and monitor assist tools such as luma parade, vectorscope and tri-level focus peaking offer a very comprehensive test and shot setup tool kit. Launch presentation and Q&A on day one of the show to be held at 12.30pm on the Atomos booth C9532.

    Pricing and Availability
The Atomos Shogun is slated for shipping end of Q3 beginning Q4 2014 for under $2000 USD and will be available through the Atomos Worldwide reseller network.

  • Any suggestions for a cheap sunhood for the original shogun?

  • Hi! Try diferent inputs on Shogun, mine works line (-40), be sure the micro is not muted, it's easy to press that button sometimes. Hope it helps

  • Works here. Does the mic work with another device with XLR input? Are the settings right in the Shogun?

  • Hi everybody! Is anyone also unable to connect a mic directly to their Shogun? I've tried everything until I was convinced that it had a broken Lemo-connector. But it just came back from their German service center with a new breakout cable. And I still can't get it to work. What could be going wrong here.

The setup is: Shogun, breakout XLR cable, Rode NTG-2 / RodeLink.

This is driving me mad...thanks! :)

  • As you can see in post above yours kit with 240gb SSD cost really same as bare recorder.

  • Atomos just dropped the retail price of both the Shogun (to $1495) and Ninja Assassin (to $995): http://www.atomos.com/enewsletter/2016/feb/atomos_enewsletter_feb_2016.html

Course this comes on the heels of Convergent Design dropping the price of the Odyssey 7Q+ to $1795 (including 256GB SSD) last month. Not to mention the 7" Video Devices PIX-E7 which has recently started shipping at $1595.

Atomos probably felt they had to lower their prices to stay competitive.

Certainly is nice to have a lot of options for portable monitor recorders and to see them becoming more affordable as well.

  • Helllo! I've read somewhere, that it was possible to flip the screen on my Shogun. Can anyone confirm this?

  • How's the battery life? I'd love to be able to hang this on a belt mount, and consult it as I'm moving around. (Would also be nice to have wireless HDMI between the two as well.)

  • Thank you for reply.

  • You can record internally while recording/watching on the Shogun, but only in 8-bit mode.

  • Yeah you can just use it as a monitor.

  • Can I record interally on the gh4 while watching on the shogun and also use Its features?

  • Look for "Changing the format" in the manual.

  • I've got the RGB444 upgrade. Where is the setting for 1080i, I don't recall seeing that when I was endlessly digging through sub menus? (Sorry quite new to the F3 still, was my first proper shoot with it!)

  • To record 1080/60p from the F3 to the Shogun, the F3 needs the RGB444 upgrade key. Set the video F3 video mode to 1080i and set the SDI output format to 3G-422.

  • Is 5am and just got home from the first day of shooting. Nice screen, very nice! But boy it took me a while to work out how to get the settings right to trigger the recording from the F3.

However.... I for the life of me simply can not work out how to record in the Atomos Shogun 1080p 60fps from the F3!!

    How??? :-( Help? :-/

  • Using one this weekend with a Sony F3 on a music video! :-D Will report back how it is, should unlock the beast within.

  • Sun hood

  • Barebones line
