  • In the viewfinder "bump" there is some sort of active cooling solution implemented.

  • The source is a post on a certain huge bulletin board, and the poster seems to be that person. The LUMIX S5 Mark II seems to be equipped with the long-awaited image plane phase difference AF, and it seems that we can expect a significant improvement in AF performance. Regarding LiDAR, which has been rumored so far, it is not mentioned in the spec sheet. Also, there is a description about the fan drive mode, so it seems to have a built-in air cooling fan.

In addition, the new lens 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO is a wide-angle zoom lens that is compact and lightweight, can be zoomed up to 0.5x at the telephoto end, and can be equipped with a front filter.

  • So how fast will we get this Phase Hybrid AF in a Lumix G body. Hopefully a GH6M2 or a GH7 also in 2023.

  • Winter is coming.

  • @EspenB

Thanks for topic and specs. Interesting.

  • Thanks for sharing the info @EspenB

If the specs turn out to be true, I will congratulate Panasonic for finally listening to us and providing a proper PDAF system.

If it doesn't have some major feature cuts, it may turn up as the best all-around camera @2000$ in 2023.

If Sigma is providing paid service mount replacement to my E mount Sigma lenses I might change the A73 with this camera because I totally hate Sony ergonomics and menus.

  • No 4k 120fps 10 bit

    Fx3 2 years ago got it .

    Seems strange

  • @endotoxic

The Sony FX3 has a 12 MP sensor and was launched at 3900$, it's like comparing Apples vs Oranges.

  • The S5 is basically a "budget" option?

  • "NEW YEAR - NEW PHASE" teaser on Instagram.

Same for message on scheduled launch video on January 4.

  • @eno

FX3 It is a 48 mpx sensor binning 4 pixels. It is 12 mpx by software.

This shows you how far behind pana is.

About Color and overall quality S5 is superior.

  • @endotoxic

The FX35 sensor is not softwere but hardwere binned, it reads out 4 sub pixels as one. The 4 sub pixels are quad Bayer (the same color) and not RGB, and they can't be accessed se individually. For all porpoises, the FX35 has a 12 mp sensor and it was lunched at duble price as the S5.

If you are so keen into making such comparisons disregarding the price, why don't you compere the poor 24 mp sensor with the one found on a Red Dragon, the later is looking much better in specs :).

  • my bad. I got confused by S1H, S5MII is the cheap one, this is good news!

  • @Manu4Vendetta - Heck the GH6 is priced the same as this full frame "monster".

While the GH6 has the upper hand regarding frame rates etc, this issue doesn't look sustainable.

We need a Lumix G with PDAF ASAP.

  • Leaked body and kit prices:

    That's what I'm talking about.
This information is consistent with the price information that L-Rumors sent out a while ago, and the price of the lens kit has also been leaked. The attached lens is unknown at the moment, but if it is the same as before, will it be " LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 " in terms of price?

The S-R1428 is expensive for a wide-angle zoom with a variable maximum aperture, but it seems like an interesting option that covers 14mm. (For reference: the 20-60mm is $597.99 at B&H.) In addition, the new lens roadmap adds high-power zoom and macro lenses. Especially since there is no high-power zoom for the L mount, it would be nice if it appeared early.

  • "The AF is night and day."

  • S5M2x extras:

    • ProRes recording
    • Records to SSD
    • RAW recording
  • Thank you Panasonic for finally listening and providing us with a proper PDAF system!

I have a feeling this will be the best budget camera for 2023!

  • LOL, Adorama noted their mistake and set the video private.

That said, the video was very nicely done with great footage and straight to the importand bits; PDAF and IBIS performance.
