ZRAW is not RAW anymore
  • ZRAW is not RAW anymore.

After firmware v0.94.1 it's an AES-encrypted MOV-container-corrupted overXORred shit, that contains only HEVC bitstream.

    Deal with it.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev yes I know Braw isn't real RAW, but, it is excellent, allows you to change WB and ISO, so I like it, whatever marketing it is!

  • @Meierhans

My reply was actually more centered on recording compressed raw on non-red cameras, much less about system change. While I enjoy discussing these kind of topics in general, and indeed also see the urgent need for change in many respects, I believe PV does not benefit from the way the discussion went in the last month

Maybe I´m getting old, but somehow I liked those days, when more Russian hackers did spend their time hacking into actual (camera) hardware, instead of seeding agitprop, bashing naive hardware repair guy´s for their inability to detect certain patterns and preaching to the converted (and unconvertables).

You just need to remove dark cloud glasses and understand that to have Russian hackers to do real thing we need system change. Not because I want it or anyone else here, but because this things are all of the same. For example, having proper access I could do around 50-100x more features and changes to GH cameras, yes, not 2-3x but 100x.

During last 10 years I had around 200-300 talks (many very long and multiple) with lot of managers including very top and CEOs. And none of this people really care about users, about modular stuff, about open software, about you being able to change and improve product or about even being able to simple repair product. Yet they care about nice clothing, their house, their sons getting superb education, their savings, marketing and PR push, considering main job - about feeding presstitutes and reviewers and controlling them, about copy some feature from other product and so on. To be short - this guys are enemies of the people and no other way you can remove them except communist revolution. I have unique experience (contrary to you) in my life as I saw this guys taking their seats, becoming who they are here in Mordor, destroying all amazing opportunities that socialism provided (even in very limited form as it was). It is not that they are bad guys, it is that capitalism make them such assholes.

To conclude - if you think that politics, economics and communism are some foreign stuff for product modularity and hacking - you are making biggest mistake of your life.

I get the attempt, but at least the way the narrative tennis is played itm, in dim light with full force from far corners, mainly between you and Kurth, with Endotoxic and a few others returning a ball once in a while, somehow does not look very constructive to me anymore.

Honestly, no disrespect, surely it was instructive, and indeed also quite fun as well for a while, but somehow its getting a little old. In my pv. Left fist belongs into sky, not into face. ;-)

Imagine a cam which allows to add different types of compression, like some kind of plugin. It would not even have to be open source, just have some interface, where the uncompressed raw data is available. Yet the company would not be liable for third party plugins

Another PV member talks about communist revolution now:-)

  • Read really sucks... Imagine a cam which allows to add different types of compression, like some kind of plugin. It would not even have to be open source, just have some interface, where the uncompressed raw data is available. Yet the company would not be liable for third party plugins. Does anything speak against this?

  • The Sigma FP is the best value for money camera, I record CINEMA DNG RAW directly to a Samsung T7 or T5 SSD and it works like a charm. No need for an external ATOMOS recorder. At a price of just Rs.96,000 ($1300), I don't think anything even comes close to this full frame beast.

  • fp after firmware update doesn't have cdng anymore. so I wouldn't upgrade your firmware if I were you. braw isn't raw either. arri uses arricolor and log. even red uses raw inside jpeg2000. so tell me this? how can you have true raw if its compressed into jpeg? it's just a debayer of colors. true raw would have to be 16 bit un-compressed. it's like saying raw h.264. it doesn't mean anything.

  • No, the Sigma fp's RAW is genuine. Because it's uncompressed, it's not affected by RED's patent.

  • The Sigma fp has real 12bit cdng RAW uncompressed. Or has someone discovered they are faking it too?

  • @CFreak

BM does not have any raw (it is just such marketing term!), can think of this like renamed Prores :-).

  • Wow, I decided to stay away from the E2 and just observe. I still use my E1 instead of a GoPro but, there are useability issues (screen viewing angle & heat) with it. Works well for locked off shots.

I picked up an BMPCC4K when I needed a camera for a project shooting in RAW (or at least as much IQ as we could get on that budget) and I needed a resolve studio license. It did better in low light than my older FS5+Atomos w/ ProRes RAW.

This issue with Red's patent on RAW sucks and may drive more people to Black Magic BRaw instead?

  • So stay on earlier firmware? I was just going to update for ProRes......

  • I always wanted to know why there is no raw recorded internally in modern camera like A7SIII, Fx6, Panasonic, Fuji, Nikon. Have you an idea ?

It’s crazy because you can have raw in atomos. I don’t want an atomos just to record raw.

  • @flash

You wanted to say "fucking Z-Cam scared management" who actually don't even knew about RED patent (I am serious here). Even first "hidden raw" they made because I told them about legal limits.

  • Fucking Red patent

  • Yes, I'm sure. Can proove with example ZRAW files and converted ".avc" files without reencoding, got by my code.

  • @storyboardcreativity

    So, this guys really scared.

    Are you sure about HEVC?
