Capitol police have called for permanent fencing around the building and security guards. A statement from Acting Police Chief Yogananda Pittman has been posted online.

She also believes that the building should be on duty "ready to respond, reserve forces." A temporary fence has now been installed at the Capitol. Pittman recalled that the recommendation to install a fence around the building was given back in 2006.
