Rumor: Nvidia will buy ARM and will merge with Apple in 2022
  • Bloomberg wrote about strong leaks about Nvidia negotiating buyout of ARM from Softbank (big Japanese financial conglomerate controlled by US).

It is best time for this, as US goverment will finance whole transaction via US bank system and non existing money,

Buyout of ARM is also extremely important as US corporations now need fully control on ARM patents due to Apple moving their notes and desktops to this architecture. Failure to do so can result in temporary bans of import to many countries for new upcoming products, especially as it is strong rumors of security holes made for US special cybersecurity forces. COuntries do not trust Huawei, but this PR also badly hurt Apple.

Despite strong Apple-AMD relations it is Nvidia that can be required on the next stage of global conflict to merge with Apple to add top GPUs and AI cards to quite weak (at least for initial 2-3 years) CPUs.

As companies will hit real 3-5nm wall (not TSMC marketing one) all industry will change inthe time of 2-3 years, And they won't be able to go back as Chinese are expected to catch within 5 years (and 3 years for all mass consumer CPU and GPUs).

  • This is good and bad. Nividia CEO is a bad joke. Visionary indeed, the problem with ARM it’s its own arquitecture. Every new problem need new hardware at chip level. And that is not scalable.

  • Nvidia Corp. is in advanced talks to acquire Arm Ltd., the chip designer that SoftBank Group Corp. bought for $32 billion four years ago, according to people familiar with the matter.

The two parties aim to reach a deal in the next few weeks, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private. Nvidia is the only suitor in concrete discussions with SoftBank, according to the people.

A deal for Arm could be the largest ever in the semiconductor industry, which has been consolidating in recent years as companies seek to diversify and add scale. But any deal with Nvidia, which is a customer of Arm, would likely trigger regulatory scrutiny as well as a wave of opposition from other users.

This is extremely dangerous, and explains why China actually got control on their ARM branch.

  • I don’t like Nvidia ceo.

Him having control of arm it’s not ok.

They already bought melanox is it? And apple getting together with Nvidia... seems to have a very powerfull plan in the future.

  • It is bad signs all around

Arm today announced a three-year partnership agreement with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), establishing an access framework to all commercially available Arm technology. With DARPA's Electronics Resurgence Initiative gaining momentum, the new agreement will enable the research community that supports DARPA's programs to quickly and easily take advantage of Arm's leading IP, tools and support, accelerating innovation in a variety of fields.

"The span of DARPA research activity opens up a huge range of opportunities for future technological innovation," said Rene Haas, president, IP Products Group, Arm. "Our expanded DARPA partnership will provide them with access to the broadest range of Arm technology to develop compute solutions supported by the world's largest ecosystem of tools, services and software."

We can see last 1-2 years of ARM domination and return of old and emergence of new architectures for mobile devices.

  • Neurotrophic computing

  • SoftBank Nears $40 Billion Deal to Sell Arm Holdings to Nvidia.

  • 40 billion against future of arm....

    I choose arm future !!

  • Does this mean we can finally get some nvidia drivers on mac os again? XD

  • @Bernie

    Of course not.

But it can mean that Apple will use top Nvidia GPUs for most powerful notebooks and desktops. And all else will use fully proprietary GPUs.

In industry rumor is that it won't be any ARM and Nvidia soon, both will merge into Apple.

  • Having integrated GPU with arm cores all in apple package seems to be what nvidia was waiting for long ago since ati was bought by amd.

Well Jensen will not survive all alone by selling GPU. He needed functioning cores of generalized Computing processing and ARM is a solid choice.

If apple buys both and it will, as USA is promoting apple dick sucking all in, apple will become one hell of a pain in the ass kind of company.

  • @endotoxic

Apple is not just Apple, it is brilliant in the US led camp crown.

And it is protected by everything this camp has in possession, from economic sanctions to nuclear bombs.

You already saw it - Samsung tried to outpace Apple and instantly got exploding batteries scandal.

Huawei tried to do the same - and paid dearly.

The number of NVIDIA shares to be issued at closing is 44.3 million, determined using the average closing price of NVIDIA common stock for the last 30 trading days. Additionally, SoftBank may receive up to $5 billion in cash or common stock under an earn-out construct, subject to satisfaction of specific financial performance targets by Arm.

NVIDIA will also issue $1.5 billion in equity to Arm employees.

NVIDIA intends to finance the cash portion of the transaction with balance sheet cash. The transaction does not include Arm’s IoT Services Group.

The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals for the U.K., China, the European Union and the United States. Completion of the transaction is expected to take place in approximately 18 months.

  • So it’s done.

Well all the world get ready for big tariffs and new prices for this ARM designs. Also new marketing campaigns saying

“Their designs are best” “In this new world low power is” “In our designs we”

    Lol

Just remember, updating arm means buying new hardware always!!!! Not like x86 that can run for years to come using same hardware.

Also spect apple to finally give all powers of hell to nvidia at their acquisition . Jensen will become the real bad guy just wait it’s mutation from Black jacket bad guy to his final form

  • RISC-V will be next

  • According to information from people familiar with the matter, the American chipmaker Qualcomm told regulators around the world that it opposes the acquisition by NVIDIA of the British chip developer Arm.

  • A $66 billion deal to buy British chipmaker Arm from NVIDIA for $66 billion has fallen through. In an official press release, NVIDIA announced that it has decided to abandon attempts to overcome the resistance of regulators in the US, UK and EU, which believe that the purchase of Arm will cause irreparable damage to the development of the semiconductor industry.
