Would like to start hacking Sony firmware

Hello everyone, I hope I don't annoy anyone with this n00b question.
I managed to extract the firmware image for my Sony WX350 from the downloadable firmware update found here https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/downloads/Z0005334 using this tool: https://github.com/ma1co/fwtool.py
Am I doing anything right here? How should I start trying to edit those files? Is there any sort of beginners' guide anywhere? I attached the tree output from the fwtool created folder, just for reference.
