To be short Microsoft Introduced another cool, goo made niche tablet, with price starting from $800
Hands-ons
I have stupid question - why you need to make tablets thinner and thinner?
It just make zero sense (other than coolness and number in specs).
Review
The Surface Pro 3’s hardware is undoubtedly impressive. Although Microsoft calls it a tablet, it’s better to think of this Surface as a full-fledged PC that can work as a large tablet in a pinch. More than anything else, the Surface Pro 3 is the ideal physical form for Windows 8.1. Both the OS and the hardware feel like a computer with some (occasionally great) tablet features tacked on top. It’s as though the bits that make up Windows prayed really hard and created a physical version of themselves.

One thing to note - it seems like guys doing such reviews are not actually heavy users of tablets, especially Windows ones.
Actual processors that will be used
you've obviously never held the original ipad in your hands, have you? it can feel quite heavy at times.
I held even original Tablet PCs and used them for long time :-) Not only original iPad :-)
Thing is thinner tablets is just trend, you don't need it, they are more fragile, battery life is made mostly using super heavy power optimization (read - you work with 10-20% processor speed most of the time).
but after a while, it just becomes a marketing pitch and giving people an excuse to upgrade.
Problem is that they now do not have place for normal SD card reader and USB ports. At best you'll get microSD and microusb with microHDMI.
