  • jason i accept,..u r rite,... i had such problem in my d5100 too,..the best lens worked worse sometimes,..handling and people to people it changes i believe...

  • On 135 f2 ?

  • Olympus M.Zuiko ED 45mm f/1.8 should be high on the list for anyone doing M4/3 portrait-size shots. While there's no Samyang at that focal length, there's very little competition.

  • Looking for peoples thoughts/experiences on the various Lens Setups I have researched and organized here. Looking for a lens kit that will cover a range of shooting scenarios (Interview Business Videos, Narrative Work and Non-Wedding Events). I prefer to shoot manually and its only for video work (no photos).

    Zeiss Setup -

    • Contax Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 | $650
    • Contax Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 | $370
    • Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 | $1200
    • Olympus 12mm f/2.0 | $800
    • Tokina AT-X 270 Pro 28-70mm f2.8 | $290
    • Total: $3490

    Rokinon Cine Lens Setup

    • Rokinon 85mm T1.5 Cine Lens| $350
    • Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens | $550
    • Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine Lens | $450
    • Tokina AT-X 270 Pro 28-70mm f2.8 | $290
    • Total: $1640

    Nikon Setup

    • Nikon AF 85mm f/1.8 | $460
    • Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AI-S | $170
    • Nikon 28mm f/2.0 AI-S | $320 or Nikon 24mm f/2.0 AI-S | $400
    • Tokina AT-X 270 Pro 28-70mm f2.8 | $290
    • Total: $1240/$1320

    Canon FD Setup - Canon FD 85mm f/1.8 S.S.C Lens | $250 - Canon FD 50mm 1.4 | $130 - Canon FD 35mm F2 | $250 - Tokina AT-X 270 Pro 28-70mm f2.8 | $290 - Total: $920

I couldn't find any appropriate wide lenses for the Canon FD or Nikon setups.

  • @dreinz

Your Zeiss setup most resembles the kit I started out with. But i have since sold my Nokton 25mm, so now what i have is as follows:

    • Zeiss 20mm f/2.8
    • Zeiss 28mm f/2
    • Zeiss 50mm f/1.4
    • Zeiss Makro 60mm f/2.8
    • Zeiss 28-85mm f/3.3-4 (zoom lens is most useful for run and gun)
    • Angenieux 45-90mm f/2.8 (lovely zoom, vintage lens, tack sharp for the first Leica R zoom in history)
    • Samyang 85mm f/1.4 (probably the only Samyang worth keeping)

All in all, my lens set up costs around $7500 at today's market rates

  • @Kazuo

I forgot to mention I'm a GH2 user. I don't really have any experience with Cine Lenses or Zeiss. I currently have 14-140mm and Canon FD 50mm F1.4.

    You prefer Samyang 85mm f/1.4 over the Contax Zeiss 85mm f1.4 ($650)?

I was thinking going down the road of Rokinon or Nikon setups. What do you think about going down either of these paths?

    Thanks

  • @dreinz @kazuo good list. Thank you people. what about 100+ mm primes. nikon 105mm and nikon 135mm these 2 lenses are bokeh special lens. are they good??

  • Tokina AT-X 287 Pro 28-70mm f2.8 ?? is it the same one like x270.

  • @rajamalik I shot a series of ads with the Nikon 105mm, it's a fabulous lens. It's good for character portraits if you are doing narrative work.

@dreinz Definitely the Zeiss 85mm f/1.4, but I dont have the means to get one now, so Samyang is a stop gap.

  • am i right in remembering people saying that the voigtlander 17.5 fits well with the samyangs? have the voigt and am thinking ahead to complementing it in a set...
