At the heart of the S1 is an incredible non-interchangeable 50x zoom lens. This incredibly versatile lens offers a focal range starting at an ultra-wide 24mm and finishing at an ultra-telephoto 1200mm, which, as Fujifilm cannily point out, would take at least two super-zoom DSLR lenses to offer similar reach. Throw in the 1cm Super Macro Mode and impressive maximum apertures of a bright f/2.8 at 24mm wide-angle to a slightly slower f5.6 at 1200mm telephoto, and it's clear that the S1 is perfectly suited for any subject that you can think of, near or far.
Macro performance is excellent, allowing you to focus as close as 1cm away from the subject when the lens is set to wide-angle.

The Fuji Finepix S1 is a capable and highly versatile ultra-zoom. Its weather-sealed body lets it be used in more places and situations than competing models. The powerful 50X ultra-wide-angle optical zoom lens, combined with a class-leading range of exposure parameters, make it truly capable for creative photography.
Our outdoor image quality shows good exposure and color, but with a higher than we would like to see amount of noise. All but one of our sample images were taken in either SR Auto or Program mode at ISO Auto except for one that was taken at ISO 1600. All of the images show noise when looking closely, which is a bit disappointing on a bright day with the lowest ISO settings. This softness the image overall, lowering its overall quality. We also noticed aberrations in many of the high contrast areas throughout all of our outdoor sample images.
