Driftwood VY Canis Majoris: This thread will now be integrated into 'Driftwood Series 6 Settings'

  • Vimeo is so strange with MTS files. This one failed to upload as some of my other longer videos have, but then randomly came to life. In their defense "MTS files are not supported", but it really seems just the ones 300mb or bigger.

Anyhow, for peternap, this was shot with CM Night, and is pretty well lit at the start, but then I increase the focal distance for the sky shot at the end. Also there are a couple more maids in this one ;)

  • and here are some shots from this week I took using CM Day and a canon fd 35mm f2 lens a member was kind enough to send me. The last two were at very high shutter speeds, not exactly sure what. They were all shot at 720p with standard settings set at 0 0 0 0.

  • One more fountain shot I should have posted earlier (my favorite)

and just so no Women get the impression from the maid videos that I am a sexist pig, here is something for the ladies. I present to you "The Little Romancer"

  • Some people seem to think they have discovered a Turbo mode - its nothing new... it is a characteristic of 80% mode and etc mode which provides (requires) upto 40% increase in bitrate. It has been employed in previous and current Quantum settings.

  • First is Mysteron, second is RAW photos.

  • I'm sticking with Mysteron, this is as flat as it can get I think

  • @strancali Very nice shots.

@Driftwood Turbo mode? Could you elaborate on what this does?

  • @mee thanks, I really need to do a proper test soon instead of just random clips :)

  • @driftwood what is a turbo mode?? does it improve the quality of the shot @ motion???

  • @thepalalias hai what about the result Mysteron vs CM night vs quantum v9b post production test comparison

  • Hi, I can not find quantum v9b to download, can someone post a link, thank you.

  • @mee Thanks! I'm still having trouble with Night, in the day but your shots look GREAT. I'm really looking forward to Cluster 2. Cluster 1 is still one of my top 5 favorites for low light and 720 P.

  • @rajamalik Maybe when things slow down a bit - they've just been too busy recently. I take it you mean in 24H, right?

If that is so, Quantum V9c (and I seem to remember also V9b) is completely outclassed by Sedna AQ1 A. I still prefer Sedna to Mysteron, except for stability in SH mode.

So I would rather compare Sedna AQ1 A vs CM Night vs Quantum V9b if I did that.

  • @mee, thanks, got it, I was confused with the names...

  • @xavieramelio actually maybe I am the confused one since thepalalias mentioned Quantum V9b above in the post above your last one = ?

  • @mee, if you read the description of v4b, quantum v9b is mention. I am assuming is an early setting, maybe from before I join this forum? In any case there is plenty for us to try...

  • new patch from @obscura. canis majoris cbr 169mbit,... thank you @obscura. lets try and see,..

  • @thepalalias @obscura its all from eoshd .com still people are testing and comparing camera output using quantum v9b. i couldnt believe how far it went. i know sedna A AQ1 killed quantum v9b. Canis Majoris night is really superb. but it sure lacks details a bit. not much. but i could see some very slight difference between my previous shots in sedna A and my recent one with Canis Majoris night. still sedna A AQ1 and Canis Majoris Night are 2 separate things. Canis Majoris night is really improved when it comes to low light. in iso 1250 i didn't find noise at all.very very less hardly visible. Sedna A AQ1 is famous for its fine grains.visible but easily removable through neat video.CM Night grades better than sedna A. each setting differs. thanks to sir driftwood. he is really great. maestros always creates unique and superior things. driftwood is a maestro

  • @thepalalias, thanks for the info

  • @peternap i used sedna A aq1 for almost 40 days. i did 3 commercial comedy clips and 2 shots films within that time using sedna A AQ1. its outstanding patch. you will notice 4 major things 1. superb details 2. very fine grains and less noise up to iso 1250. 3. very post production friendly (best for extreme grading and perfect color correction) 4.very high bitrate cbr style patch so that you can convert the clip to any editable high bitrate cbr formats (prores 422 hq) same for canis majoris night. now i have more than 40 diffirent indoor and outdoor shots only cm night it also has 4 major things 1. very filmic look 2. no grains at all until iso 1250. its finer than sedna A. 3.when it comes to grading and color correction it overrided the measures of sedna A. not extreme but infinite. 4.vbr not very high in bitrate. i do have some shots below 110mbit. but convertable and equally good in prores 422 hq.

so both are diffirent things. people who compare sedna A and canis cannot find any place to fall. they cannot choose either of these patches if they compare and get confused with.

majoris night is better in indoor. sedna does everywhere. sedna is the most detailed canis patches are most filmic. canis grades better..sedna looks better in details by default. canis has less noise,..sedna has noise but refined can be removed. sedna A is cbr 154mbit,...canis is vbr 176mbit but always does a average in between 100mbit to 140mbit.

both of them are not comparable.

    both does different things.

i understood all these after taking them so serious.

shots i have are all edited graded tried color correction indoor outdoor.

at present i am living near a beach in chennai. i dont have a faster connection to upload these works. i would.

i am using local isdn 512kbps connection. its just ok with email and text,..i will sure upload many conclusive comparision from my shoot out asap.

try sedna A and canis night in indoor and outdoor take similar shots,.. do some work in post,... then you will also realize that both of them are staying apart.

thanks to obscura ,..he helped me and patched canis majoris night to cbr. both cbr and vbr are similar. no use. if you try canis majoris night in aq1 it does the same. almost near. i felt the cbr is little better in grading,..i used gradent setting in magic bullet looks in fcpx. it felt a bit more real than canis m night vbr. i dont know how others experiance within same patch. i feel canis M Night CBR is slightly better in post than vbr.

  • @peternap deleted?? What??? he he. ;)
