Due to the departure or decrease in activity in the Russian market due to events in Ukraine, well-known foreign electronics manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, Dell, Chinese brands of phones, tablets, laptops and home appliances began to fill the domestic market.
In the first half of 2022, the Chinese smartphone brands Realme, Vivo, Mi, Tecno, Infinix, iTel and Nokia (Chinese holding HMD Global) became the leaders of the Russian market in terms of sales in physical terms, Marvel Distribution told Kommersant. In particular, Tecno, Infinix, Realme and Xiaomi increased their sales by more than 100%. Poco (a Xiaomi sub-brand) saw unit sales up 16% year-over-year, Nokia up over 40%. At the same time, Apple's market share declined by 14% and Samsung by 15%. In total, a little more than 10 million mobile phones were sold in Russia during the reporting period, which is 23% less than in the first half of 2021.
According to Ozon, unit sales of Tecno smartphones in the first half of the year grew more than 20 times, Doogee - five times, Digma - almost eight times. Yandex Market reported that in the first quarter, the share of sales of Chinese electronics brands doubled compared to last year.
