March 9 was the first day when the outflow of cash from the banking system was replaced by an inflow, so far only by a symbolic 25 billion rubles. After the start of the conflict in Ukraine, the population withdrew 2,844 billion rubles from the banking system, which is approximately 10% of all ruble bank deposits in the hands of the population. The bank runs were the largest in Russian history and the speed of cash withdrawals is about 5 times faster than the previous worst confidence crises in Russia.
