Windows 11 is one big danger, monthly payment coming

Pushing new store, inability to install basic Home version of OS offline and without full Microsoft account registration.

It also rumored now that Windows 11 will be pushed as Windows 10 update, automatically.

    Look that we have here:

  • It is just a mess.

  • TPM 2.0 requirements

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a chip that is either integrated into your PC’s motherboard or added separately into the CPU. Its purpose is to help protect encryption keys, user credentials, and other sensitive data behind a hardware barrier so that malware and attackers can’t access or tamper with that data.

    https://www.microsoft.com/security/blog/2021/06/25/windows-11-enables-security-by-design-from-the-chip-to-the-cloud/

Actual purpose for TMP is opposite - for CIA and government to have instant access to your encryption keys. This is why authors of good encryption software are always being treated bad, as having lot of custom encryption and not having key around is bad for them.

  • Immediately after the presentation of Windows 11, the developers announced that TPM 2.0 would be required to install it. However, the next day, Microsoft relaxed the requirements and said that TPM 2.0 was a recommendation and that TPM 1.2 would be sufficient to install the OS. Now the requirements have changed once again and TPM 2.0 has become a must again. A Microsoft spokesman confirmed that "TPM 2.0 is the minimum requirement and Windows 11 will not install without it."

TPM 2.0 is required for OS as service model.

We can see this as soon as next year already in some niches.

  • the forced patch update from 10 to 11 should go perfectly smooth as users find out they don't have tpm 2.0 and get a blue screen of death and lose all data.

  • Yes, update will be fun, but they will first run special tool to check.

Windows 11 is due out later in 2021 and will be delivered over several months. The rollout of the upgrade to Windows 10 devices already in use today will begin in 2022 through the first half of that year.

  • In its official blog, Microsoft announced that it will test the 7th generation Intel Core processors and the first generation AMD Ryzen processors for compatibility with the new OS.

I think it is beyond anything, as Windows 11 has zero reasons to not work on same hardware Win 10 is working.

  • List of Windows 11 editions:

    • Windows 11 Home
    • Windows 11 Pro
    • Windows 11 Pro Education
    • Windows 11 Pro for Workstations
    • Windows 11 Enterprise
    • Windows 11 Education
    • Windows 11 Mixed Reality
  • It became known that Microsoft intends to block workarounds for installing the new operating system Windows 11 on devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements. The developers reported this in responses to user questions regarding the new software platform and how to update devices to Windows 11.

    This is very dangerous thing.

  • None of my PC, laptops support TPM2.0 so until I buy new PCs, win11 has to wait a few years at a minimum. Sorry, MS, that is a truly dumb upgrade path you shove down folks' throats.

  • @ghkqn

    Do not worry so much.

Windows 11 for Mordor and China won't have this requirement, due to crypto issues.

In short - TPM is designed by NSA and can be accessed even remotely if you are high value target.

  • On TMP 2.0

The preliminary analysis revealed that the Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) is the weakest point of the system. While promoting the use of the technology, Microsoft stated that “The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is designed to provide hardware security-related functionality. TPM chip is a secure crypto processor designed to perform cryptographic operations. The chip uses multiple physical protection mechanisms against hacking and malicious software cannot cope with the TPM security system. "

Dolos Group found that the TPM of a stolen or lost laptop is unlikely to be able to protect against real hackers. According to experts, a cracker can organize an attack using simple and relatively inexpensive equipment and publicly available tools.

Although the TPM chip itself has several levels of protection, including physical, its interface with the processor, for example, is not protected. Experts have compared hacking a computer with TPM to robbing Fort Knox - instead of attacking the vault itself, it is much easier to rob a vehicle that is leaving it and not so "impenetrable".

  • Microsoft posted on YouTube a 50-minute broadcast of Windows 11 upgrade paths and tools. There were a lot of dissatisfied comments about Microsoft in the comments on the video, so the company had to turn off the comment feature for this post.

  • The company told that PCs with unsupported CPUs aren't 'entitled' to get Windows 11 updates, and might not even get driver or security upgrades. You may have to get more recent hardware just to keep your system secure, in other words.

Are they going to shoot themselves in the foot? Because lack of updates can mean lack of job for up to 70% of Windows team people, as all they do is making holes and fixing them in their boring day to day routine. And changing windows borders corners and background photos, of course.

  • Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 will be available on October 5th, both as a free upgrade for qualifying Windows 10 systems as well as new PCs shipping with the OS pre-installed.

    https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2021/08/31/windows-11-available-on-october-5/

  • Microsoft is starting to drop PCs from its Windows Insider testing program that are ineligible to upgrade to Windows 11. If you’ve been helping Microsoft test Windows 11 on a machine that doesn’t meet the minimum hardware requirements, you’ll likely see a message in Windows Update warning that you’ll need to reinstall Windows 10.

It is big struggle inside, as Microsoft had been paid to push people to new computers but they also want to profit from anyone who stays.

  • Microsoft's new Windows 11 operating system may degrade the performance of all officially supported AMD processors in work and gaming workloads. At the same time, in some gaming applications, esports in particular, the decrease in performance can reach 10-15%. Processor speed can be reduced by 3-5% in production applications.

    Surpize.
