Capitalism: Compilers, MMX and big corporations
  • Few big corporations stand behind requests to remove MMX support from leading compilers - GCC and LLVM Project, they hide behind nice developers who just talk about tech stuff and simplification, of course.

In reality, many old projects, libraries and many modern simple ones use MMX heavily still, corporations just hope that it will allow them to kill few smaller companies who won't be able to rewrite big parts of tech heavy code. Plus they hope that some of old software will become unusable and with time incompatible with new OS.

Leading software corporations have now even dedicated people who look for old free or cheap software and help to remove it from accessibility. This includes buying rights to remove software right away, fake DCMA requests if they see that site is not maintained for long and lot of more advanced methods.
