Note how it is lack of BGA chips on such old motherboard.
And it is very good as number of defects is 5-10x times less.
For lot of chips only reason of BGA usage is due to cheaper packaging (total savings per device can be $2-4).
Large BGA chips are extremely unreliable because of possible deformation of large area due to heat or impacts, and any BGA chips do not like even small water damage.
Add here lead free soldering on all modern motherboards that is prone to cracks in soldering balls - and you have tens of billions of damages made due to greed of just few top managers.
