Kinko began shifting its attention from DSLR camera lens to lenses for smartphones, car-use electronics, IoT, smart home and e-payment systems. The company has been developing car-use cameras for around five years and may ship such devices to Magna, the largest automotive component maker in North America, in 2020, the sources said.
Kinko Optical is also supplying its products to cleaning robots and smart doorbell and has formed collaboration with China-based WeChat to supply camera lens for its new e-payment point of sale (POS) system. The company has already decided to raise its capex to NT$400 million (US$12.77 million) for 2020 to develop new molds and expand factory equipment.

Calin, which was a a key supplier of Canon's DSLR camera bodies and lenses, is now devoted to new applications including security cameras, projector cameras, car-use cameras and face-recognition cameras.
