Tragedy of Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Camera aka EOS R

  • Canon PR keeps playing with announcement date trying to fool Nikon and Sony. New specially leaked date is September 4th. But don't think it is final and real.

  • Another possible specs

    • 28MP full frame sensor
    • Dual Pixel Auto Focus
    • IBIS
    • 10fps shooting
    • 4k@30fps and 1080p@60fps only (also due to bad LSI)
    • $1,900
  • More rumors

    • Name: Canon EOS R
    • RF Mount, new mount with possible EF compatibility
    • No reports of new “RF” lenses being announced alongside the body
    • Similar ergonomics to the EOS M50
    • Slightly larger body than the EOS M50
    • Will compete with the Sony A7 III & Nikon Z6
    • 24mp or 28mp, dual pixel AF for certain
    • Announcement September 5, 2018
  • Cry of the beast

  • More assurances on the list of upcoming stuff:

    • EOS R body
    • EOS R 24-105 kit
    • RF 35 mm F 1.8 M IS
    • RF 50 mm F 1.2 L USM
    • RF 28 - 70 mm F 2 L USM
    • RF 24 - 105 mm F4 L USM
    • EF-M 32 mm F 1.4 STM
    • EF 400 mm F 2.8 L III
    • EF 600 mm F4 L III
  • Talk is that Canon main feature will be direct EF lenses mount with special mount design so it'll pull out for this usage. Also canon will focus to ensure exceptional performance of EF lenses, it was big meetings of top management specially only about it.

  • Now they just try to have imaginary place telling that can make 8K camera

Video will play a huge role in the EOS R System for sure. For example, an 8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap. And we are not just looking at video from a camera perspective, we are also working on how to make RF lenses better for video capture as well. For example, the RF 24-105mm F4L was the first L-series lens with Nano USM technology, which contributes to silent and smooth autofocus while shooting video. We are looking to further extend the Nano USM-equipped RF lens lineup. Paired with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, a wide range of Nano USM equipped RF lenses will promise video creators great image quality as well as impressive autofocus together in the R-series.

David, being very good interviewer lately is being used by cameras to push necessary information.

  • That is too hilarious! They can’t even do proper 4K, but suddenly they’re going to come out with 8K? Well, roadmap could mean anything since they give no date... Toward the end of the interview, we learn that, contrary to what all the pundits have been declaring, it is not a pro version of the EOS R that will be released next, but - an entry- level mirrorless!!! As if the EOS R wasn’t already ‘entry-level’ enough! smh Dave’s asides are really annoying. Like where he writes that he’d never considered photographers’ attitudes toward adapters, and lots of other drivel. wth

  • We’re being told that no new EOS R body will begin shipping in 2019, and it will fall into early 2020. There is still an off chance that an announcement could come in late 2019, but we think Canon will hold off until the CP+ show next February.

This is really dangerous. Constant cutting of development will have consequences.

  • Plan is to release between 6 to 8 new RF mount lenses in 2020.

Most lenses will be 2-3x more expensive compared to EF alternatives.
