  • RE: Closing of the Chinese consulate in Houston.

... it is a move to pressure Beijing to get more US diplomats back to their posts in China. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19, the US had hurriedly evacuated quite a number of American diplomats and citizens from China. Now Washington believes it is time for them to continue their China mission. Yet negotiations on their return did not go quite smoothly.

The US has postponed flights for dozens of its diplomats who had planned to return to China “after failing to reach agreement with Beijing over issues including Covid-19 testing and quarantine,” according to a Reuters report on July 1.

However, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on July 2 that China’s quarantine measures “apply equally to all foreign diplomatic missions to China.”

I suspected that this was the actual reason for the closing of the Chinese consulate in Houston. Just a petty and unproductive way to throw negotiations down the toilet because the US wants special treatment compared to everyone else. It's completely ridiculous to argue diplomatic immunity means you don't have to be quarantined or tested especially coming from the mother of all hotspots for COVID like US diplomats.
  • @jleo

    Who wrote this bullshit?

China’s consulate in Houston is not a diplomatic facility. It is the central node of the Communist Party’s vast network of spies & influence operations in the United States. Now that building must close & the spies have 72 hours to leave or face arrest.

This can escalate quickly I think. We can have only single embassy location as soon as two weeks for both countries.

Expect anti chinese propaganda soon as well as mass extradition of Chinese students and workers.

  • The Houston consulate mostly processed visas for Americans living in the Southern United States. If you need to spy, Washington D.C. is probably more important than Houston :) The US Embassy in Hong Kong is, if I'm not mistaken, the largest US Embassy in the world, a nest of spies and saboteurs?

  • @jleo

Each embassy or consulate is nest of spies and such. Always had been.

  • It will be fun

The speech is entitled “Communist China and the Free World’s Future”. Pompeo also recently vowed in an interview, “Look, the American people are not going to allow our economic work, our talent to be stolen by the Chinese Communist Party.”

Mr. Pompeo says Chinese leader Xi Jinping is a “true believer in a bankrupt totalitarian ideology.” Mr. Pompeo stops shy of explicitly calling for regime change, urging allied countries and the people of China to work with the U.S. to change the Communist Party’s behavior.

  • "Each embassy or consulate is nest of spies and such". US has a consulate in Shenyang. Why Shenyang you may ask? it is an aerospace center where stealth J-20 and J-10 are designed and manufactured. How about Wuhan? it probably has little to do with virus, more so with Wuhan being where submarines are built (although the newer submarines now roll out from Shanghai). Of course there is a consulate in Shanghai, besides this is an economic center, the latest warships happen to be built there as well. Given the fast deteriorating relation and increasing decoupling, it will not take long for both sides to be down to just 1 Embassy, and a skeleton one to boost.

  • And such a stark contrast to the abortion we could see above

  • Huawei slowly leaving India

Income this year will half compared to 2019.

From 60 to 70% of all personell will be fired.

Company is slowly folding and leaving India, as US operation prove to be very sucessfull.

US and EU are expecting to finance most of new 5G stations for India.

  • US wants Oracle and Cisco to reinvent the 5G Wheel, No thanks they say!

One senior government official said: “We gave up our superiority in making telecoms equipment decades ago, and now we are realising that this might not have been the best choice for national security reasons. Almost every department and agency is desperately looking right now for ways to get back into this game.” “If we don’t, Huawei could soon be the only option for anyone wanting to roll out 5G networks.”

To the consternation of the Trump administration, there is no US group that can build the radio equipment to transfer signals between mobile phones and the towers or sites that make up the network.

Some officials believe the best way to counteract Huawei’s dominance is to make sure its rivals can match the Chinese company’s multibillion-dollar credit lines from China’s state banks that allow it to offer much longer payment terms than most of its rivals.

Others in Washington are pushing instead to foster a homegrown rival to Huawei, and have asked large American telecoms equipment companies such as Oracle and Cisco whether they would consider entering the radio transmission market.

Both companies have rebuffed such suggestions, according to two people familiar with the discussions, warning it would be too expensive and time-consuming to do so.
  • It just show that US government officials have little understanding on telecom network business.

  • @ghkqn

It is imperialism, so goverment and telecom business is one big thing.

Want to enter US nice business areas with your Chinese 5G base stations and cheap smartphones - get the fuck out of here!

My first team had ex-Nortel employees.

  • The thief always thinks that all are in his conditions.

  • Hollywood stole the trade secrets of Hong Kong action movies now used in almost every action TV series or movie, pretty much wiping out the HK movie industry. At one time US companies reverse engineered German, Japanese cars, appliances etc. etc. If you put out a Big Mac, Burger King comes out with a Whopper! Since Apple started by making black boxes to steal phone calls from ATT and stole the GUI from Xerox, isn't Apple like the Huawei of the USA? Revolution is no dinner party, business is no picnic :)

In the United States even if an artifact or process is protected by trade secrets, reverse-engineering the artifact or process is often lawful as long as it has been legitimately obtained.

  • I’m not from USA, so I see this from Outside. It’s funny how gringos are all going crazy if they don’t have control and comunication around them.

It’s like seeing the bully being bulled. It looks awkwardly funny. You realize the bully really only was a abused child. Fuck it’s sad.

But, I don’t like being watched by Chinese more than Americans.

  • Both Apple and Samsung will cancel OLED negotiations with BOE

Both companies actually already made smartphones using BOE OLED panels (and also few other chinese manufacturers provided prototypes).

Yet supply will be cancelled and contracts won't go past small initial test batches due to trade war.

US and EU authorities are afraid that BOE could obliterate competition in case they will be allowed to enter Apple and Samsung supply chain.

Apple also will replace BOE panels that they planned to use in ARM Macbooks to different panels, it is biggest issue with lineup now that can even cause delays.

Both LG and Samsung are leaving LCD panels market, but may stay into micro led sector.

With OLED it is also same, as LG and Samsung try to stop production for sectors that don't bring outstanding profits and focus on largest big 8K TVs (80" and larger panels), as well as panels top top smartphones.

  • What will happen when the lines meet?

  • @balldawg14

Well, as white line goes up usage of words like "totalitarian regime", "unacceptable behaviour" is rising exponentially.

All we need to wait for is for yellow line to touch zero mark. The moment will be real checkmate for US,

  • The Trump administration has put together a "war plan" to first "confront" and then "take down" the Chinese Communist Party, said Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.

This "war plan" against China includes supporting allies in India on the borders of “Chinese-occupied Tibet," Bannon said on Monday.

“You're seeing an integrated war plan put together to confront first and then take down the Chinese Communist Party, to call their bluff," he told Fox News in an interview.

Bannon said the president's "kind of war council" has laid out the "four horsemen of the apocalypse" -- the national security adviser, head of the FBI, the secretary of state, and then Attorney General Barr -- against the Chinese Communist Party.

    https://news.panasonic.com/global/press/data/2020/07/en200730-3/en200730-3.html

US stands behind Panasonic decision as company is all in Japanese and US goverment debts. Plus controlled by US.

  • Bloomberg reports that, according to people familiar with the matter, President Trump plans to sign an order to direct China’s ByteDance Ltd.’s to divest its ownership of the popular app.

Idea is to buy TikTok for nothing (aka freshly printed money).

Rumors are that Microsoft will execute the transaction.

Also small rumor is that Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Twitter and few other companies will form special constant anti Chinese committee in August.

Under pretense of fake goods Amazon is expected to throw as much as 80% of all third party sellers from the Amazon before hot 2020 season. It will be presented as big win for American people.

  • from social media post, grammar corrected:

(the) US wants to bar members of China's communist party members? including their families. According to a source, this news was originally reported and published by The New York Times, picked up by different new agencies after.

How many people are we talking about?

The news says 90 millions members, if we include the families like first wife, second wife and all other wives, and their kids, the numbers will be 270 million  people, that's almost an entire American population.

    Who are these people?

Perhaps Americans who keep reporting on Chinese exclusion, have no real idea about China.

For a person to become a public official, you need to be a member of communist party. For a person to become a public servant like teacher, municipal employees, you need to be a member of communist party. For a person to become an entrepreneur or businessman, you need to be a member of the communist party.

The Chinese billionaires, conglomerates founders, they are all members of communist party, people like Jack Ma (Alibaba), Wang Jianling (Wanda Group), Wang Chuan Fu (BYD, also a Tesla batteries suppliers), Robin Lin (Baidu). Even Dr. Li Wen Liang, the doctor who alerted the government on the transmittable respiratory disease in Wuhan is also a member of communist party.

    Who is the real target?

Some say the target is not the 90 million members, not those high profile businessmen that invest in America, or supplies critical parts and materials to American technology companies, but the real target are ultra rich princelings and corrupt officials.

According to Snowden in one of his leaked information (releases) , these princelings and corrupt officials had stashed some Y30 trillion Yuan in US banking and properties.

Is this about the money then?

Possibly, if US bars these princelings and officials, the 30 trillion Yuan will disappear just like Ghadaffi or Iraqis gold, never to be seen again.

But... But, yes, there is always a but in the international politics, especially when you are going to duke it out with another giant. The moment US bars these princelings and officials, and sequester those funds, Chinese confidence in US banking, US banking law, and US law will evaporate, China could sell off the debt and make (the US) dollar a non confident investment,

  • China’s ByteDance has agreed to divest the U.S. operations of TikTok completely in a bid to save a deal with the White House, after President Donald Trump said on Friday he had decided to ban the popular short-video app, two people familiar with the matter said on Saturday.

ByteDance was previously seeking to keep a minority stake in the U.S. business of TikTok, which the White House had rejected. Under the new proposed deal, ByteDance would exit completely and Microsoft Corp would take over TikTok in the United States, the sources said.

Some ByteDance investors that are based in the United States may be given the opportunity to take minority stakes in the business, the sources added.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment on whether Trump would accept ByteDance’s concession. ByteDance in Beijing did not respond to a request for comment.

Under ByteDance’s new proposal, Microsoft will be in charge of protecting all U.S. user data, the sources said.

The plan allows for another U.S. company other than Microsoft to take over TikTok in the United States, the sources added.
