Free Color Grading Presets for Sony Vegas
  • A lot of people use Adobe or Final cut plus magic bullet and this and that. Once you start adding it all up, it' can easily go over $1000 of software. I don't have that kind of cash right now so I use Sony Vegas Studio 10, now just upgraded to 11 cause I'm poor AND cheap. For those of you like me and would like some free color grading options I've found these.

If you don't know how to use Presets, the first two links have instructions and links to the preset manager software download. The Presets work with Vegas Pro or Studio.

EDIT: In the third link, looks like some of the presets don't work right since they were designed for Vegas Pro and some of the preset plug in chains are missing since they're not in Vegas Studio. The first two links were created with Studio in mind, however and should work in both.

This is great! Thank you for sharing.
  • Great find, thanks a lot!
  • This the best FREE usable plugin for Sony Vegas, been using it for years. It's the default plugin i use for every video for 6 colour individual CC, levels, white balance and a host of other controls.

Thanks for the link to that - it's brilliant. It's going to save me a heap of time. I still tend to have curves as a plugin, but having all of these others in one package is great. Thank you!!!
  • Also remember, Magic Bullet Colorista 1 is free now.

Three color wheels are good enough I'd say.
Although it's only for some Adobe products and Final Cut Pro.
  • @P4INKiller Vegas Studio has those basic 3 color wheels, but if you have no idea what you're doing, like me, then the presets are a good starting point. Eugenia, who created the first two links, made them to emulate the Magic Bullet looks she liked and the looks that could easily be emulated using the stock color tools.
  • Maybe this helps also. On the youtube webside there is the link to download the presets....

  • Thanks for this!

I tried a few of Eugina's presets in Vegas this morning....the one I liked best so far was curahee. Here are some clips of Hurricane Sandy in Virginia....shot on GH-2 hacked with sanity 5 Nature setting -2 -2 0 -2 -2 I think then used the curahee preset. The GoPro shots (obvious) were just shifted toward monochrome a little.

  • Whatever plug-in you use, just don't go with the Amber/Teal color palette of today's modern films! It looks downright fugly and this particular color timing must end soon!! :)
