GH2 hacked: Timeline Dropping footage in FCP7 log and transfer and compressor : SOS
  • Thanks Vitaliy! I donated!
I have researched for hours without finding a solution and hoping for guidance. I apologize if it has been addressed and I missed it.

Converting to Apple Pro Rez HD the Timeline is dropping the last section of clip in FCP 7 log and transfer and compressor. So a 30 second clip is transcoded to 20 seconds.

I can verify the full length of data is there watching teh AVCHD in preview but cannot get it to transcode fully. I am using a iMac 3.06, 4g ram and never had this issue prior to the hack.

I found a EOS Movie Plugin-E1 suggestion for transcoding but could not find any follow up on what the tag would be to modify the source file to recognize the GH2 and what the workflow would be in FCP to activate this plug-in.

I have a project in the can I am desperate not to have to reshoot any help would be most appreciated.

    1. Can anyone advise a workflow for converting Hacked GH2 AVCHD in FCP 7 or compressor to avoid this issue?

    2. I found someone is having success tried Volatic and lost even more footage….http://www.zeroplusplus.com/panasonic-gh2-42mbps-avchd-hack-panorama-stitching/

    3. Even though the test file is only 30 seconds, would "not saving to an external HD" be the issue?

  • Use this plugin made by Panasonic to read AVCAM and AVCHD files in Final Cut Pro 7.
    https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/dload/avccam_impt/agree_e.htm
Install the plugin, restart your computer, then go to log and transfer and select the memory card folder itself (not the MTS files).
You are good to go for some native editing!

PANASONIC ANNOUNCES AVCCAM IMPORTER SOFTWARE ACCELERATING AND STREAMLINING IMPORT OF AVCHD FILES INTO FINAL CUT PRO

SECAUCUS, NJ (February 22, 2011) -- Panasonic Solutions Company has introduced AVCCAM Importer software, a QuickTime plug-in that eliminates the need to convert AVCHD files to ProRES422 files before editing in Final Cut Pro.

AVCCAM Importer is a software for Apple Final Cut Pro to enable direct editing of an AVCHD “.mts” file without conversion. Since AVCCAM Importer is a plug-in component for Apple QuickTime, QuickTime Player can play an “.mts” file directly after installation of AVCCAM Importer on a MAC.
  • @Phenixone
SUCCESS!!! Thank you thank you thank you= You are very generous to lend a hand!

I didn't know this was possible which brings up a couple more q's:
    1. Are there any drawbacks to editing the Native format I should be aware of ? Right now it appears to much for my iMac to handle......

    3. We have a new machine on order "i7 2600 processor, 16 gig RAM and 1Gig video card"..... would it be a reasonable expectation that the current machine boggs the new machine will have no problem with this format?

  • Here is the apple How to for AVCHD = It didn't work for hacked footage....
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandworkflows/index.html#chapter=6%26section=2%26tasks=true

Here is the Panasonic Guide = basically same as apple / didn't work for my footage....
    http://www.american.edu/soc/resources/upload/White-Paper-Editing-AVCHD-with-FCP7-2.pdf

Am I alone or is everyone using Native footage in FCP or is everyone using work arounds like the EOS Movie Plugin-E1?
  • I am trying to install the plug in but it says (error com.apple.installer.pagecontroller -1)., apparently is not compatible with lion.
    can anyone help?
  • I've installed Sage's latest patch. And I did some recording at the 24H setting which is Quantum v9b. When i try to use log and transfer to bring the footage in, it just keeps saying unrecognisable file structure?

I've imported Panasonic P2HD 100mbit avc intra before no probs, so i'm assuming bit rate has nothing to do with it.

Are other people experiencing problems like this with their GH2 footage? I cant seem to find many others experiencing this

  • Ok, so I bought the clipwrap software for rewrapping the footage. Now i'm wondering which Pro res 422 version I should use. I know the data rates of each, and logic says that if recording at 136mBits + on the quantum v9b hack, then I should use 422 HQ, but to be honest, I cant seem to see much difference between the 422HQ and the 422 (certainly not 1.5x size worth).

Im thinking i'll stick with just 422, but i'm thinking then is it worth recording 136, or am I better with just using quantum 100 as plain pro res 422, is capped at 100mbits.

    Thoughts?

  • Follow up on what course I took. We bought a much faster computer with plans on creating a hackntosh (google is your friend) but ran into a roadblock with a funny European BIOS menu and that never happened.

After a ton more research we decided to ditch FCP all together and start working with VEGAS as it handles native AVCHD much better. Vegas has worked flawlessly and the learning curve was minor. There are a ton of Pro’s and con’s to FCP but for us the resources required to natively edit AVCHD was the deal breaker in addition to the increase hardware cost of a stock apple.

We do not foresee a need to switch back to FCP for the work we are doing or get an apple again for editing.

Best of luck to you if you push through getting FCP to work
