70-200mm review

FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM is really sharp lens. From wide open lens maintains very high sharpness in the central 2/3 of the image, and very good sharpness at the edges. It is same both at the wide end and the telephoto end, which is great. Stopping down a touch brings the edges to excellent territory, with even quite sharp corners. It’s definitely a lens that you can simply choose the aperture based on depth of field, and not worry about sharpness.

This update (version 04) resolves an issue where some products may not operate properly after updating to version 03.

Note: The lens must be attached to an E-mount body camera to perform this update. The NEX-5, NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-VG10, and PXW-FS7 model cameras cannot be used.

Review

Center sharpness at 70mm is high from f/4 to f/16, with f/22 being adversely affected by diffraction. The edges aren't quite as sharp as the center, with f/5.6-f/11 producing the sharpest results.
