Big part of Panasonic's ILC lineup is its ability to capture video with the same high quality as its still images. This has put them at the top for Hybrid (still and motion) cameras. Keeping them at the top is the GX8's ability to capture 4K video as well as Full 1080p HD video. The camera does this in either full Auto or full Manual shooting modes, offering you as much control as you would like. Our sample videos were taken in both 4K and 1080p. Our 4K video with the camera mounted on a tripod is sharp and shows a high level of detail. It plays back very smoothly through the camera and on a computer. Our 1080p video was shot on the move to take a look at the dual I.S. system. While walking the camera was not as steady as we hoped to see, which makes it hard to tell how sharp the video is.
Although not as small or elegant as the Olympus OM-D cameras, the GX8 will appeal to photographers looking for a solidly constructed weatherproof CSC with a generous grip and plenty of user-adjustable controls. The 4K shooting modes are likely to be appealing as well.
GX8's horizontal field-reduction for 4k UHD video works out at about 1.25x, compared to about 1.1x for the Lumix G7 and 1.2x for the Lumix GH4. So given the same lens on each model, the GX8 will deliver the narrowest view and the G7 the widest, with the GH4 roughly in between.
I am evaluating to sell my GX7 and update the GX8. It would be perfect if I had the 96fps and V-LOG. Its more expensive than GX7.
Pier-Yves Menkhoff Film have a wedding shot with the GX8, but cant share directly, in vimeo can see as "Wedding Elopement with a DMC-GX8"
