  • Best for what?

  • Sorry... Best for interviews for BTS footage. Subject will be in close proximity (1m) from the mic...

  • Well, for interview you need two mikes or hand the make to someone and get it back. Or you won't have your questions be heard clearly.

You can even do perfectly with usual Shure dynamic mike.

  • Ok let me rephrase it a little bit. The subject will be talking to the camera and to the mic. The questions of the person asking will be cut out anyway. I currently have the first RODE Mic, is the second (the one without the cover) a better sound quality?

  • Hi Tom, the first one that you own is the one you want. The video mic pro shotgun mike for voice. The second is stereo for ambient noise, so you have the right one for what you are doing. Check your levels as depending on what cam you might want to go up to +20db and turn down the pre amp on your cam, cheers

  • Thanks Fitzy!

  • Hi @tomasawyer, for interviews the best option is RODE video mic pro. The DSLR-DSLM's have poor preamp's and generate a lot of hiss, by having the microphone at +20 dB gain, you can use the the camera at minimum input level, which gives you the cleanest sound. If you need a sound better than this, record it externally.
