US: Lies and deception

  • President Barack Obama warned Iran on Thursday it would face the toughest possible sanctions for an alleged plot to kill the Saudi ambassador in Washington, as Treasury officials eyed action against the Iranian central bank.

Saudi Arabia on Thursday accused Iran of fomenting instability but pledged a "measured response" over the alleged conspiracy that has heightened tensions between OPEC's two top oil producers.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, on a visit to Austria, said that the evidence showed "Iran is responsible" for the suspected assassination plan and said Tehran had tried to "meddle" in the affairs of Arab states before.

In Washington, Obama told a news conference that the United States would not take any options off the table in dealing with Iran, a phrase U.S. officials regularly use toward Tehran that is diplomatic code for the possibility of military action.

"This is part of a pattern of dangerous and reckless behavior by the Iranian government," Obama said in his first public comments on the affair.

U.S. authorities on Tuesday said they had broken up a plot by two men linked to Iran's security agencies to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir. One was arrested last month while the other was believed to be in Iran.

  • This are getting strange when America's great enemy is a used car salesman in Texas.

And why do they keep calling this a "Terrorist" plot? Seems like anything that involves Islam that America doesn't like is "Terrorist".

  • I do not want to comment this "plot". Because it is so made up thing, so badly made.
Looking at mass media you can see how level drops right on your eyes.
Lies become bigger and no one longer cares with some preparation or finding at least plausable foundations.
  • @brianluce "America"? The US Federal Government, you mean? Not everyone who lives here is happy with the government bullshit. I can't even watch anything to do with the presidential candidates because it all makes me feel so sick to my stomach. Really, it does. They're all so full of bullshit, and it is so obvious! None of them are going to do anything to upset the status quo, the powers as they stand, which is the problem.
  • @B3Guy
Yeah, an imprecise use of language. By "America" I mean the nexus of big business, big media, and big government. They scratch one another's ass and keep the system sewn up for their own benefit -- so it's wrong to label that America so how about we call it *The Thing*.

  • >how about we call it *The Thing*

It looks more like tumor :-)
  • I believe it cuz if they wanted to FAKE a story they wouldn't have it be this stupid. I mean come on. This is the same country that has Hollywood in it's backyard. You think they couldn't invent a more serious and sinister plot if they wanted too? They could've planted a dirty bomb or some other really scary item like a chemical agent if they wanted. It's not like the Govn't doesn't have the resources or black ops people to make a more credible sounding story. That's why I think it really did go down like this. Besides Obama isn't Bush. You don't see the stuff they really want to do coming. In fact if the Govn't really wanted to heat things up with Iran they'd have let the guy get assassinated. That would be more like a clandestine operation.
  • @Aria , you shouldn't be too trusting in Mr. Obama, or his masters.

For a detailed analysis of way this situation has been manufactured by the US Government to serve its political agenda, read Glenn Greenwald's article at Salon.com:

    http://www.salon.com/2011/10/12/the_very_scary_iranian_terror_plot/singleton/
  • @bdegazio
    Great article I agree 100%.
Also, that shoe bomber and underwear bomber are equally inept. I think both those guys had second thoughts about that whole 80 Virgins in Paradise thing and that's why they didn't get it done.

  • This article in the Christian Science Monitor gives some reasons why the "plot", if true, would be out of character for Iran:

    http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middle-East/2011/1012/Used-car-salesman-as-Iran-proxy-Why-assassination-plot-doesn-t-add-up-for-experts

It seems to me like the USA is warming up for some sort of military operation in the region and they want a pretext for political reasons.
  • This is simply a "wag the dog" scenario in the political news cycle.

The Iranian plot was uncovered in JUNE. Why release the plot info now?

Attorney General came under subpoena(for a second time) for handing guns to drug cartels
    (resulting in verifiable American deaths)
The Iranian plot info was released the SAME DAY the subpoena was to be issued.

Obama is under suspicion of several politically motivated funding scandals which led to bankruptcies of green job / solar companies. Losses totaling a Billion+ dollars.

A conservative person of color (black man) is rising in the polls to challenge Obama in the next election. Polls released this week show Herman Cain leading the race to oppose Obama 13 months from now.

Anything related to !! TERROR !! trumps every other news story in the cycle.

Or, timing of the news release could just be a coincidence.
  • I agree with Woody, this is a wag the dog scenario. This "plot" was known months ago. It's only being released now for political reasons. Barry and just about his entire cabinet are in a lot of trouble over Fast and Furious, the Solyndra fiasco, and who knows what else. Their willing accomplices in the media are even starting to crack under all this weight. I doubt the State Controlled media will do the right thing though, since Barry is their man.
  • @vitaliy_kiselev my good "buddy" (read his book Basic American Government in high school) Clarence B. Carson called it "The Leviathan" if I remember correctly . . . Clarence was a BEAST, I gotta say. its a thick-ass book, but then it digs into a lot of great stuff. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to understand more about the workings of the US Gov't with some history and evolution of the same. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5779704-basic-american-government
  • The other fun one I remember from high school was a book called "Lies my Teacher Told Me", which rips apart a bunch of historical bullcrap thats in most public school history books. Did you know Christopher Columbus was pretty much the smelliest dickwad to set foot on this continent, enslaving most anything on two legs? Did you know that Helen Keller actually had a life after she learned sign language and grew up? She was a ver active socialist, suffragist, pacifist, and helped found the ACLU?
  • Trenchant debunking by Justin Raimondo here:

Could Obama's recent assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki have been timed to break the ice and make this Iranian tale appear more plausible to Americans?

  • Looking at the latest Sirte (called Libyan Stalingrad now) and Tripoli news other version could be that goverment just want people to be distracted on anything. Even if it looks stupid.
  • It looks like nothing is new under the sun:

    http://www.brookings.edu/%7E/media/files/rc/papers/2009/06_iran_strategy/06_iran_strategy.pdf

The truth is that these all would be challenging cases
to make. For that reason, it would be far more
preferable if the United States could cite an Iranian
provocation as justification for the airstrikes before
launching them. Clearly, the more outrageous, the
more deadly, and the more unprovoked the Iranian
action, the better off the United States would be.
Of course, it would be very difficult for the United
States to goad Iran into such a provocation without
the rest of the world recognizing this game,
which would then undermine it. (One method that
would have some possibility of success would be
to ratchet up covert regime change efforts in the
hope that Tehran would retaliate overtly, or even
semi-overtly, which could then be portrayed as an
  • I've found you can't really convince people that watch mass media networks of anything regarding just about anything. I stopped talking about the fundamental system problems that seemed common-sense to me, and the endless hypocrisy present in every nation, state, and village in the halfway civilized world.

But it's always interesting to talk with others who have unique perspectives on such things.

I still think our technology is becoming too advanced for us. Our minds cannot handle information overload from television propaganda, school indoctrination, bad parenting and self guilt.

I'm not even sure exactly what this thread is about but I surmised it had something to do with some type of conspiracy/corruption/injustice... i.e. likely some topic of substance or value stated with passion, and I respect and admire that.

I'll have to hang around here more often seems like some interesting conversation happens.

I'm a U.S. Iraq veteran, and I view my military experience as more of an embarrassing learning experience than anything else. I am not a patriot, I have denounced nationalism in all forms.

My two cents sum up as... I spent so much time being angry because I thought things were not the way they should be, it was just very self destructive and unhealthy for me.

For a couple years I couldn't stop myself from reading every single conspiracy that could ever possibly be possible, from the Anunnaki, to 9/11 (which is not a conspiracy as far as I'm concerned because I'm sure everyone just accepts it was a cowardly hoax anyway, or are just in complete denial, which is also likely) to what we're really doing on the moon, structures on mars, reptilians from alternate dimensions, I'm pretty sure I've heard most of it all.

And as fascinating as I find all of those things in possibility, I realized it was really doing nothing for me but making me unhappy.

To conclude, I pretty much believe anything is possible, have no political affiliation and probably never will, have no interest in hurting people or taking advantage of anything.

I do want to make music videos and films though, that's pretty much all I'm about now.

Great forum by the way Vitaliy. I don't know what you're about but you seem like a reasonable person, and that's better than being unreasonable in my opinion. I like the random updates about world events, a lot of it I don't follow or see so it's always cool to get that perspective.

  • that's why I hardly watch American TV. The the last time I watched for more than 10 minutes was July of last year when I was in the hospital. :) 50 some states, 50 some countries, so few TV stations and news. The news are the same view and yes, same news!
  • American TV is the best in the world only second to BBC.
  • USA Sport production is probably the best in the world.

  • The Obama administration should punish Iran, which allegedly plotted to kill the Saudi ambassador in Washington, by waging a covert war that includes lethal strikes against Iranian intelligence operatives, a group of conservatives told a joint House subcommittee hearing Wednesday.

Although Republican lawmakers criticized the administration’s approach to Iran as not aggressive enough, Democrats argued that the current regime of sanctions had worked to slow Iran’s quest to develop nuclear weapons. All agreed that the alleged plot was a serious provocation that merited a response. At issue was what sort of response.

Suggestions ranged from limited cyber attacks to covert CIA action and unilateral U.S. raids.
