  • missing 240fps and HDR, I am sad

  • The release dates will be regional VK, Oct 8 probably the official announcement, Oct 15 the first shipping date. First the fanfare, then the release, GoProers luv their hype :-)

  • @mpgxsvcd Gotta agree. I haven't seen anything in the specs to make me want to run out and buy one. Besides, you have to wait until the fix most of the bugs they always have before you even consider it.

  • Any footage out yet ?

  • Sounds like I'll be shopping Black Friday for a 3+ Black.

  • @peternap, so what would have to be in the specs to tempt you Pete, you have 4k 30p, 27k 60p, 1440 80p, 1080 120p all at large data rates ?. I'm curious ;-)

  • Look what just appeared in Danny MacAskill's mail box. image

  • I hope it does not only have 4k/30 but also 4k/24 and the touch screen will be on the 4k edition too (heard a weird rumour it may be not)...and I hope for once that damn remote works I had an important shoot on Saturday and the Gopro totally failed (LCD screen had connection problems) and then the remote somehow switched the gopro from video to photo mode and then nothing worked anymore...(it was not possible to shoot photos, too, so it just crashed again...) and it was on the performer's stage and I couldn't fix it...no device let me down as often as the gopro...still I like the outcome if it works and I try and try again and again...hope version 4 will work better in all that terms

  • @Rambo Full exposure control would be the top of my list Ian. I suppose I'll jump on the 4K bandwagon eventually but right now I'm just not excited about it. Eventually I'll buy the new GP I'm sure but for now I think I'll pick up another couple of 3+'s when the price is right.

  • @Rambo....720/240 would have been an "immediate buy" for many people. Also a fast frame rate that has manually controlled exposure would be nice as well as manual control for 24/30p stuff. And as we've seen , 4k w/o 24p doesn't shakeout well. I'm uncertain why gopro pulled 240fps but to miss that opportunity to be the first...well it's baffling. And the lack of lcd on the black is questionable. Of course when gopro went public, with that little nuance comes conflicting marketing strategies...i.e this lowend model as example. And I have to add that I would have loved to see an interchangeable lens system that fit the camera's profile, as well as take adapters.

    ....oh...and IS

and I'd like to know if the letus fits any of the new models ?

    upzz...it's got 4k24p !

  • It seems like we where off with announcement date. :-)

  • So they use new type batteries with slightly lower capacity (old 1180mAh new 1160mAh), remote is no longer included (new remote model is introduced as a separate accessory http://shop.gopro.com/EMEA/accessories/smart-remote/ARMTE-002.html#/start=1) and black editions doesn't have a screen... I might pick up music edition some time later to use together with my old hero 3 black for recording gigs.

SAN MATEO, CALIF. (September 29, 2014) – GoPro, Inc. (NASDAQ:GPRO), enabler of some of today's most immersive and engaging content, today unveiled HERO4, the highest performance line of capture devices the company has ever made. HERO4 is available in two editions, HERO4 Black at MSRP $499 and HERO4 Silver at MSRP $399. GoPro’s Emmy® Award-winning imaging technology combines with enhanced ease-of-use and powerful new features such as 4K30, 2.7K50 and 1080p120 video capture (Black) and built-in touch display convenience (Silver), to make it easier than ever for consumers to self capture and share stunning, professional quality content of their favorite experiences.

HERO4 Black delivers 2x the performance of its best-selling predecessor and now captures cinema-quality 4K video at 30 frames per second (fps), 2.7K video at 50fps and 1080p video at a blistering 120fps, virtually eliminating rolling shutter in most scenarios while allowing for time-bending slow motion effects. HERO4 Black also features an entirely redesigned audio system that captures high fidelity sound with 2x the dynamic range of previous models. Additional enhancements include improved image quality, low light performance, highlight moment tagging and an improved user interface that allows for easier discoverability and access to key features and controls. The HERO4 Black is simply the highest performance GoPro yet.

HERO4 Silver delivers the same professional image quality as HERO4 Black less some of the higher performance video capture modes including 4K30, 2.7K50 and 1080p120. HERO4 Silver includes a brilliant built-in touch display for those who value convenience and ease-of-use over the no-holds-barred performance of the HERO4 Black.

The new HERO4 line will be available October 5 on GoPro.com and at select retailers worldwide.

“For the past twelve years, our passion has been to make it easy for people to self-capture jaw dropping, professional quality footage of themselves engaged in their favorite activities,” said GoPro Founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman. “That passion led us to embark on our most ambitious design and engineering effort ever, and the result is nothing short of the ultimate GoPro—the HERO4 Black. • No stabilization?

  • The upgrade from the 45nm process to the 32nm process on the new processor should allow a better battery performance and lower temps, be interesting to see real world results.

  • am I interpreting "exposure controls for both photo and video" in protune to mean you can set the ss and aperture ?

  • Based on details released and gopro's history, I'm 99% sure it's similar exposure control to what we've had in the past with the addition of longer exposure times for low light / night shooting (up to 30 secs). Don't think there's any way to stop down the constant 2.8 aperture.

  • yep...dan chung confirms..."no full manual control of exposure functions on any of the cameras" !

....so much for making a miniature cine camera !

ps....doesn't that lens look like it's screwed on ? Luv to see a c-mount adapter !

  • @kurth - Pretty sure this is old news by now. But there's a Canadian company I think (back-bone?) making adapters for Gopro line. Last time I checked, there were a handful of different lens mounts available.

  • does the 50% wifi boost mean we'll only have a 2 second lag now? :P

  • @Gravitatemediagroup, it's only 0.5sec with a Blk3+ on an ipad2 with the Prizmia App, so a 50% faster wifi would probably be less then that again.
