The unique design of the NEX-EA50EH further adds to the camcorder’s versatility. Interchangeable E-mount lens System


The NEX-EA50EH incorporates the Sony E-mount interchangeable lens system, which enables auto focus, auto exposure and stabilisation during shooting. With its short flange back distance, it is possible to attach both established A-mount lenses via the LA-EA2 lens mount adapter, and an unrivalled choice of other brands lenses using third-party adapters.

Newly developed powered zoom lens


The NEX-EA50EH camcorder comes with the newly developed Power Zoom E-mount lens E PZ 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS SELP18200. It features auto focus, continuous variable iris and Optical Steady Shot image stabilisation with Active Mode, making it ideal for shooting moving images. It is electronically controlled by both the zoom rocker lever on the camcorder grip and top handle. Film-makers can achieve a constant zoom speed and smooth, slow zoom, both of which can be difficult to accomplish with manual zoom lenses. In addition, using fixed focal length lenses users can simulate a zoom effect using the smart digital zoom function, ensuring fast-paced shots are never missed.

16.1 megapixel still image capture

A variety of recording media options


Sony’s HXR-FMU128 flash memory unit can dock directly to the camcorder for recording an immediate backup. The camcorder is compatible with the new Mirroring Memory Stick (MS-PX64/32/16) which is the world’s first memory card featuring a “Mirroring” function. This enables the card to deliver high reliability and data security through a dual recording (mirroring) function. This new professional memory card will be available in 3 different capacities: 16GB; 32GB and 64GB.

Hi, I have just been asking about this camera ono another site.

From the info supplied, I take it that because it has a CMOS sensor, there will be rolling shutter issues - or does the mechanical shutter actually eliminate this problem?

It will cost more than Black Magic's Camera, but it doesn't seem to capture RAW uncompressed video...

Looks pretty good though, will be interesting to see how it fairs in comparison with other cameras at this price.

Yeah, I think I'l be fine with the GH2, the more time goes by that I spend looking at different cameras, the more I am sure that the GH2 will do everything (and more) that I want it to for the foreseeable future.

RAW video sounds great but when I think more about it, it means more storage space is taken up. I guess the main advantage of having such ability is in post production when you go to grade/correct the footage how you like it... there is more scope to drastically alter the image without artefacts occurring. But I have seen a lot can be done with GH2 footage through colour correction and so on.. Thanks for the info & this site is brilliant.

This looks like an FS100/700 in a more traditional video camera body. Kudos to Sony for giving people a choice. I hope the picture quality is as good as an FS700. However, the sensor may be different and have smaller pixels. The FS700 has a 11.6MP 'Super-35mm' sensor. No spec on the sensor in this new camera, but they say it takes "16.1 megapixel still pictures with RAW format support". That would imply a 16.1 megapixel sensor.

So it's a Semi Pro version of the VG20. I just wish they gave the cam a bit more Image Quality, but I guess if it was a shoulder mount FS100, then it would be even more expensive. Still don't know why they couldn't include ND filter. How much more could it cost to add an ND filter?

A camcorder for sony Z1 fans who didnt jump in the FS100 wagon !

@kicap: No it is not FS100 by any means... it is rathen NEX 5N or VG20...

Was hunting for this thread, couldn't find it so started one, but VK closed it. Glad this thread resurfaced. Ok back to my original question. HDMI output is it 8bit 4:2:0 or 4:2:2? Seeing it's AVCHD, I would think its 4:2:0
