Can anyone think of a reason not to combine a couple of these and cheap lavs for a <$100/ wireless solution?
1) no control over level 2) if the mic picks up any other sound external to the main subject- you could have lots of crazy issues when mixing multi system sound that is not synchronized.
It is still cool deal, especially for guys who have many cheaper cameras without audio input.
Totally great deal. Don't get me wrong. I love my tascam dr100 mk2. Tascam make great products... Also they make lots of pro gear, so hopefully tech filters down.
@alcomposer The specs say.... "Automatic or manual level setting"

So the concept was to basically 'strap the DR-05' onto the actors with a cheep lapel mic. Hence you would not really get control of level as your DR-05 would be in someone's pocket.
As for 'Automatic' level... I don't really trust that word 'Automatic'.
I just picked up a Furryhead windscreen for the DR-05. They're cheap, around $16, seems well made. You'll take a major hit in your audio quality however, significant drop in freq response. It does cut the wind though, but don't expect accoustic transparency. Far from it. There might be better options at similar price points, I don't know, not a terrible thing to throw in your bag. http://www.amazon.com/Tascam-DR-05-Furryhead-Windscreen-Black/dp/B007VI99YM/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1398829237&sr=1-2&keywords=furryhead+tascam+dr+05
