  • @JDN - Cool solution, using the Photoflex softboxes. I totally get the idea and I've got some similar Chimera boxes I can experiment with. Looking forward to pictures. @Twitherb - Thanks for the link to editman site and the pics of the 508 - it's amazing how small and thin it is! I'm also interested in knowing where you got them and how much they cost. I just ordered a new 900 LED bicolor panel from the same Chinese manufacturer that makes the 312 (or maybe several companies make them?) It looks like a knock off of the LitePanel 1x1. It's funny, they intentionally left off the barn doors so they look more alike.

  • How would the single color and bi-color compare in their output, when I´d put a CTO gel on the first and tuned the second all the way to 3200°?

  • Ha, I didn't even know that shooting with them mixed made for a better CRI -- I just always did it (w/manual white balance) because it "looked" better. Good to know though. Gonna stick with that approach. @JackBayer, in case your curious, here's a recent example of something shot with mixed 312s -- key is from 2 x 312 in a softbox with egg crate, fill from 1 312 in a large sof box with extra level of diffusion inside, and there's a dialed down 312 in a home made snoot high behind him. The blurry foreground interest is a duck, as he is a duck scientist.

    50mm 1.4 FD wide open with black frost 1/8 and .6 ND infront of it. Aquamotion 2. BTW, the other thing nice about the bi-colour is you can balanced mixed, then use lights (usually bg or accent) full daylight or full tungsten instead of having to worry about blue/orange gels.

  • Isn't it a bit of an overkill, to have a softbox on the LED light? I mean, how many times do you really need to control the light spill in the situations you use those LED lights for?

    IMHO, a piece of white diffuser in a holder placed about 10" in front of the LED bank does a great job making a soft light source.

  • @mo7ies not sure if that is such an overkill. that box looks quite convenient and practical. On the weekend, I was on a shot that made me think that it could be useful. Sure, you could diffuse the light as you described above. On that shoot we tried that with a larger LED and we just couldn't get it right in the short amount of time we had (48h film competition). I am not sure if the 312 with a softbox like that could have been more useful....but maybe.

  • So based on experience of those who bought them, is there a good set for a 3-light interview setup, which can be deployed with batteries or mains power, and will last a few years, in a nice case? Ideally, they should have stands, a dimmer, bi-led mixer, barn doors and fresnel. A few gels and a softbox might be fun to add. How much do I need to spend to get this combination?

  • Just got the metal monitor. The color is a good match to the oled, sharpness and build are outstanding.

  • Just got the 7" IPS monitor. It is far better than anything I have seen to date. The picture is sharp and beautiful and very quick to eyeball in with the knobs.

  • This topic is not for questions or replies.

    @Daniel_R

    I suggest to check existing monitors topics. From all this I advise to get Neway ones, as they have better panels, better quality and more features.
