"Do you think is it possible to use this plugin: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/fisheye-hemi.htm
    for video?"

I wrote to the guys at Image Trends who make the Fisheye-Hemi plugin for photos inquiring about a video plugin. They said they are considering video versions but cannot give specific dates as to when they might be released.
  • I'm not hopeful about that.
  • Nice. Thanks.
  • I got a bad copy. Literally I had to rotate it with full force. The lens mounting has some play. It makes audible metal clapping sound when rotating the focus ring.No biggie. Exchange to another copy.

A quick glance at it wouldn't recognize its fish eye. A leather like pouch bag. The lens hood is easy to use.

Front barrel moves back and forth. Initial testing. Very nice. Sharp and low CA. Well balanced on GF2. 9cm closest focus distance. Too short throw from 25cm to infinity distance scale. Excellent build quality. Metal focus ring and aperture ring. Samyang knows how to make a good m43 lens.

Color rendition comparison with 14-42X. I like the fish eye's color rendition. More deep and vivid. This is very good considering 14-42X has better color rendition than 14, 20, 14-45.

At $299, this is a great value.

  • More fish!!! Having fun with the lens to be returned tomorrow.

I had sudden urge to climb up a chair, make a jump, and shoot a wide angle...

  • Here's an ex of the new firmware 1.1 shot in HBR mode 25p using a Samyang 7.5mm MFT

  • Yep, Samyang, Bower, Rokinon. Same shit.
  • Oh I see ... Cool that its so cheap... :)
  • It will get cheaper.
  • I think this lense will be my next purchase :) But at the moment it's 299€ (390$) and I hope that it will get cheaper next year. And please keep on posting pictures and videos!
  • @Kount_Michula
You can transform the video into an object in photoshop and apply the filter. I just don't have a fisheye than i don't know if there is too much quality loss!
  • @Elenion
I just got the lens but I am not running Photoshop at present. Something to try though...
  • Here is my test at "Salon de la photo" in paris on October :

    Samyang fisheye 7,5mm f/3,5
    Panasonic Pancake 20mm + nikon wc-e68 = 13,6mm f1,7
    Olympus zuiko 50mm f1.8 (1979)
    Carl Zeiss CP.2 21mm T2,9
    Leica summilux 25mm f/1,4
    Panasonic lumix G X vario PZ 14-42mm f/3,5-5,6
    Panasonic lumix G vario 7-14mm f/4
    Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95

    GH2 all handheld / 1080p24
    Isos : between 160 and 320
    Settings : smooth (-2;-2;-2;-2)
Editing : Final Cut Pro X
No filter / No CC / no stabilization
    Shutter speed 1/50
    Song : "poinçonneur des lilas"
  • Just did some tests removing the fisheye distortion from the Samyang 7.5mm, to use it as a rectilinear ultra-wide angle.

    Downsides:
-Resolution loss, quite noticable in the corners
-CPU intensive, quite slow rendering times

The 'Lens distortion' effect in Premiere Pro was used, with a curvature of -38.

Although not ideal, this is a much more affordable solution to the Lumix 7-14mm (£650+). It is also useful to have the option of using fisheye footage as rectilinear in post.
  • @ptchaw
You lose much of the wideness. Can you try this: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/fisheye-hemi.htm ?
  • @Elenion Just for the record, there is an avisynth plugin called Defish that can do the job: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1375626

  • The latest batches have 1 meter distance marking.

The older batches have nothing between 0.25m and infinity markings.

Also... who knows what other silent updates they might have done...

  • Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop profiles for the lens to make it rectilinear. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1041&thread=40689446&page=1

Here's how to get 2.4:1 rectilinear photo from it. http://m43photo.blogspot.com/2012/04/defished-fisheye-compared-with-ultra.html

    Cool stuffs.

  • @stonebat

Thing that I want to see in future m43 bodies is custom lens correction profiles. Ones that allow to adjust color, CA removal, distortion correction for any lens, including manual.

  • Yes. I want it, too.

Also EV reading on MF lenses is different from Panasonic M43 lenses. Usually underexposed. Prolly the body assumes a default focal length and calculates EV. I'd trust a light meter instead of in-body EV reading when using MF lenses on Gh2.

    One day...

  • Samyang's homepage has the lens with 1 meter marking on distance scale. image

Previous revision doesn't have the 1 meter marking. Sneaky huh!!!

  • I got a bad copy again... I tested it anyway... It will be returned tomorrow.

The stereographic lens profile works great. Unless a person is framed too large, it fixed enough distortion on each person. I used Lightroom 4.1 trial version. Very good editor. Huge improvement in sharpening and automatic correction of lateral chromatic aberration. It also lifted the shadow while retaining good highlight details by default.
