DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and creative camera technology, today sets a new standard with its most powerful and portable stabilized mini camera - DJI Pocket 2. The second iteration of the highly popular Osmo Pocket, now called DJI Pocket 2, brings creative design and performance upgrades so that creators of all skillsets can easily capture and create amazing stories.

DJI Pocket 2 packs full-scale performance in a highly portable and lightweight body, making it the perfect everyday camera to have in your pocket, bag, or purse. For its small size, Pocket 2 does not compromise on features. The 3-axis gimbal makes footage smooth and appealing. Supported by a 4K camera, a larger sensor, and a wider lens, Pocket 2 delivers improved image quality in both photo and video modes compared to its predecessor. Creators can get up close with their subject using a brand new zoom feature. With an upgraded focus system, lock onto and track moving subjects faster and more accurately than ever before. The DJI Matrix Stereo, a new and improved audio system, provides crisp and clear sound recording, while pre-programmed shooting modes allow anyone to create visually appealing content with just a few taps.

DJI Pocket 2 also showcases a highly modular design with a removable base plate that allows you to attach new accessories and expand your possibilities. Similar to the original Osmo Pocket, Pocket 2 can be used as a stand-alone stabilized camera, connected to your mobile device with a dedicated phone connector, or operated remotely with wireless accessories for greater camera control.

"There was nothing like the DJI Osmo Pocket on the market when we first released it in November 2018, and it immediately changed the way we capture life's special moments," said DJI President, Roger Luo. "DJI Pocket 2 takes it even further. We listened to our customers' feedback and adapted the iconic design and form factor while raising the bar for the camera system. Pocket 2 brings an improved audio experience, as well as wider expandability. Whether you are out and about capturing everyday stories or a vlogger who requires more creative flair, the built-in intelligent features and different video templates allow anyone to create cinematic and engaging content. Everyone and anyone can shoot a video, but Pocket 2 can help you capture footage like a pro, taking your visual storytelling skills to a whole new level."

    Tiny Camera, Big Difference

Whether it's your daily adventure or a long-awaited vacation, DJI Pocket 2, as the name suggests, easily fits into any pocket, making it the ideal companion to bring everywhere. Weighing just 117 g and offering up to 140 minutes of battery life, the DJI Pocket 2 is all you need to record those special moments without being weighed down.

Small yet powerful, a larger 1/1.7" image sensor captures images with improved quality. The sweeping 20mm f/1.8 lens provides a bright and wide cinematic look, perfect for all sorts of scenery or vlogging. Photographs can be captured in 16MP or 64MP images using a high-resolution mode, while a maximum video resolution of 4K/60fps at 100Mbps records in stunning details. HDR video has been added to make your videos pop with vivid colors. DJI Pocket 2 also offers up to 8x zoom using the 64-megapixel mode or 4x lossless zoom in 1080p or 16-megapixel mode so you can get closer to your subject without actually moving towards it. Autofocus has been redeveloped using a Hybrid 2.0 AF blend of phase and contrast detection to increase speed and accuracy.

    Immersive Audio Experience

Just as image quality has been drastically improved, a complete rework of the audio system ensures footage sounds as great as it looks. The newly added DJI Matrix Stereo system consists of four microphones, strategically placed clear of a hand holding DJI Pocket 2, capturing an immersive audio experience that brings you back to the moment.

Directional Audio enhances sound recording from those microphones to pick up as much detail as possible, with SoundTrack adjusting the audio based on where the camera is facing, while Audio Zoom narrows the sound field when zooming the camera in. To further filter out unwanted background sounds, an optional wind noise reduction helps keep the audio clean in outdoor settings.

Let DJI Pocket 2 Do All the Work With New And Improved Intelligent Features

DJI Pocket 2 is simple to use and easy to understand. A suite of upgraded modes makes getting up and filming those special moments seamless and quick. Design and user experience upgrades include Fast Wake to power Pocket 2 on instantly, Drop Aware to take preventative measures when it senses the gimbal falling, and Pause Recording to quickly pause video recording during operation. Intelligent pre-programmed modes include:

    • Pro Mode: Control advanced camera settings such as ISO, shutter speed, EV, and focus mode.
    • ActiveTrack 3.0: Select a subject and let DJI Pocket 2 keep it in the frame automatically.
    • Slow Motion: Capture the fast-moving world in slow motion with a max speed and resolution of 8x at 1080p.
    • Timelapse, Hyperlapse, Motionlapse: Speed up the world around you with the varying effects of three different time-lapse operations. Hyperlapse automatically integrates Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) for added smoothness. Users have the ability to save individual images separately, record in RAW format, and use ActiveTrack 3.0.
    • Panoramas:
      • 180° Pano: Captures four photos for sweeping landscape images
      • 3×3 Pano: Merges nine images for a wide and detailed view.
    • Livestreaming: Livestream directly to Facebook, YouTube, or RTMP.
    • Story Mode: Preset camera movements, color profiles, and music make it easier to choose a template, record the moment, and share to social media instantly.

New Accessories And Dedicated Mobile App To Explore And Expand Your Creativity

A wide variety of accessories have been created to ensure creators can get the most out of DJI Pocket 2, including a sleek charging case, wireless microphone set, waterproof housing, a smaller control wheel, extension rod, wide-angle lens, wireless module, and smartphone support system. A new modular design lets you remove the bottom portion of the handle and attach several accessories that expand the ways you can put DJI Pocket to use, including a base to attach the Micro Tripod and a Do-It-All Handle with a tripod base, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module, speaker, 3.5mm audio jack, and wireless microphone receiver. Whether you are a new user or experienced content creator, DJI Pocket 2 has everything you need to capture footage that will add colors, context, and meaning to your story.

Osmo Pocket was the first camera to use the DJI Mimo app, and that tradition continues with a streamlined user interface, in-app features, and more. A built-in editing tool makes adjusting images and videos simple and ready to share on social media instantly, while a new AI Editor automatically previews the footage, selects the highlights, and creates a short video. Managing content has never been easier with functions like Batch Select that enables you to select, delete, or download multiple items at once.

  • What abut low light? I’m waiting to watch some footage at night.

  • @danilo1

    Nothing to write home about.

Check any smartphone with typical main camera 1/1.7" sensor.

And note that most good smartphones have F1.5-F1.7 and not F1.8 lens.

  • Better than GoPro, though, which has a smaller sensor and slower lens. But that is not a high standard.

  • The big problem with this camera is that for 4K60p the bitrate is automatically lowered because of heating issues- it is 60 Mbps H264. That is not nearly adequate for this resolution/frame rate. The lesnumeriques.com review says (Google translate): "The image is then significantly deteriorated due to a decreased recording rate. "

The GoPro 4K60P is 100 Mbps H265, which is approximately 200 Mbps H264. And, the 5-axis digital stabilization of the GoPro is also superior to the 3-axis gimbal. When you shoot in 5K30P on the GoPro (at 100 Mbps H265), you get stabilization that is superior with no loss in resolution rendered in 4K from 5K. Of course, the downside is you need high shutter speeds, which essentially makes the GoPro almost useless in low light for stabilized video.

  • The GoPro 4K60P is 100 Mbps H265, which is approximately 200 Mbps H264.

It is not true, If you check Netflix papers here in corresponding topic H265 is 1.7-2x more efficient only on EXTREME x265 software encoder settings.

If you get cameras encoders H265 efficiency gain is from none to around 1.4-1.5x times. And the more complex the scene is, the move mvement, the harder is to find matches (this is main simplified part) - the less is the gain.

And, the 5-axis digital stabilization of the GoPro is also superior to the 3-axis gimbal.

In depends, for many usages digital stabilization is no go.

  • Thanks for the additional info on H265 efficiency. I think it is safe to say, however, under most conditions the 100 Mbps HEVC the Hero9 can do beats by likely 2X the 60 Mbps H264 that the DJI Pocket can do for 4K 60P. That is the key point. Maybe it is 1.5X, not 2, the advantage of the Hero9 compression. Maybe it is 2.2X. Maybe the advantage is even more. Whatever the metric, the review clearly demonstrates the big falloff in IQ when the bitrate falls while the frame rate increases on the Pocket 2. It is another example of a camera manufacturer not updating its processor, just the sensor (which is likely just purchased from someone else).

On digital stabilization: "It depends." Depends on what? I already said because of the need for high shutter speeds, low-light is out. What else? Do we need to pay a fee to get the info? subscribe? post a like? :)

  • @markr041

Digital stabilization has limits. Modern ones can be really really good, but sometimes it becomes confused. With good modern gimbal you can almost always get predictable behavior, especially with complex moves or slow careful movements.

  • White version

  • No, it's the "Sunset White" version. I am waiting for the Sky Blue Pink version...

  • How is the aperture affected when I put on the wide angle adaptor lens?

I'm considering the Pocket 2 as a upgrade to my Hero7 on the Karma Grip, because of size and a significantly better low light performance. However the stock lens on the Pocket2 is not that wide.

Also the Pocket two supports a wireless microphone and audio input, again a feature missing on my GoPro kit.
