American billionaire, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda turned out to be the largest owners of agricultural land in the United States. In total, they own about 269 thousand acres of land (over a thousand square kilometers) in different states, writes The Land Report.

Gates has been buying farmland for several years. Now the businessman and philanthropist owns plots in 19 states. The largest are in Louisiana (280 sq. Km), Arkansas (194 sq. Km) and Nebraska (83 sq. Km).

  • This makes me want to throw up.

  • Who knows... maybe all he cares about is making a quick buck and he'll flip this real estate to the Chinese in a few years. After all, the US in the news Africa, right?

  • In UK:

In the aftermath of the Brexit vote, meanwhile, Sir James was at the centre of another awkward PR kerfuffle, after Greenpeace revealed that he’d just netted some £1.6 m in EU farming subsidies in a single year.

The cash was paid to Beeswax Dyson Farming Corporation, a firm he’d set up to manage the swathes of farmland he’s acquired.

With around 25,000 acres under the organisation’s control, primarily in Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, he’s now believed to be England’s biggest private landowner, with more rolling acres than even the Queen.

    Guys love buying land lately.
