  • thanks! after reading this.. the gh3 should have at least that avc intra 50 codec to rival with rumored 4:2:2 mpeg2 codec in 5D.. it´s still 4:2:0 but that advanced color filtering and 10bit could do the job ..
  • can someone please clarify this for me?
so the GH2 is PERMANENTLY stuck with 8-bit and 4:2:0 ?
the will be NO OPTION whatsoever to change this with hack/Panny firmware?
is it because of the codec limit or the sensor itself?

    thanks
  • I'm willing to bet the GH2 can not offer 4:2:2.
I certainly wish 4:2:2 was possible, especially for green screen and post work. Red channel stair stepping can be a bitch to deal with.

Having said that, I certainly don't hear many complaining about blu-ray big name movies.
    These are YCbCr 4:2:0 .
  • so-
can someone please explain to me WHY it is not possible?
is it the sensor hardware? or the codec?
  • Most probably the image processing hardware. The sensor is analog, BTW…
  • yea i meant the processor itself..
so once the hack can produce the avc Intra, it still cannot make it 10-bit or 4:2:2.
not because of the codec (Panny info above), but only because of the processor?
    am i getting it right?
