Bad design: VRM cooling made by marketing
  • image

    From Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Xtreme.

Issue here is not only chunky heatsinks with small surface area. But this guys cut them with RGB shite, so only working part of heatsink is small bottom one with top one having almost no use due to extreme distance from heat source.

    Also usage of heatpipes.

To work normally heatpipe must have one end being hot and another being cool where coolant condenses back, this is whole point of it's usage.
If you just connect two same VRM areas (with same temperature) by heatpipe all you do is making cooling worse and spending money without reason.

Connecting long heatpipe towards chipset is complete idiocy. As you will have condensation exactly near DRAM that will warm this area a lot, as well as because normally chipset will be cooler it will heat it as well.

Same about connecting two VRM areas, it make sense only if one area is much cooler, otherwise it is waste of money.

And why the fuck you need to always cover parts of heatsinks by some shit?
