If I'm not mistaken, put simply, in order to join the WTO, the US insisted that China dismantle all state owned enterprises SOE's and transition to an open market economy. ( everything owned by Wall St and EU bankers). That hasn't happened. Maybe that's why there's a trade war, Not really about trade balances. Dismantle socialist economy and let Wall St own everything! and Trump hotels in all of China :) The new trade deal with Canada and Mexico has a clause where Canada and Mexico cannot enter trade deals with non-market economies ( i.e. China) without US approval. Nobody can ask US to dismantle market economy to gain access to foreign markets. That would be considered crazy, right? :)
