Many people look at this like small episode, I suggest to look at this in broader way.

it is big chance that Brazil will be going deeper into energy crisis in coming years, and elites will be able to buy cameras anyway.

  • Brazil has crazy crazy high taxes on imports, so even though Brazil is a big country, I'm only mildly surprised that Nikon might decide the place is just worth giving up on! I bet they don't have a distributor in Venezuela either....

  • @IronFilm

It is lot of countries with crazy high import taxers. And it'll be much more soon.

  • Yeah, it got worse in Australia recently (they used to have a $1K threshold! Which was nice. But now gone), and NZ is sadly looking to go down the same road soon under our Labour Government.

  • @IronFilm

Labour Government has nothing to do with it, but inevitable capitalism conflicts certainly do.

Note how in sync all things happen.

  • Oh yeah, both sides can be equally bad at times! Just in different ways. Two sides of the same coin.

  • Here in Brazil, in fact the import and other taxes are so high, that frequently a camera cost 100% more than in the USA.

In a lot of cases, is cheaper to buy a plane ticket to USA and buy the camera there than import it.
